Trump hails ‘historic’ deal for US to control 65bn barrels of Venezuela’s oil

The US has reached a deal with Venezuela to control more than 65 billion barrels of its proven oil reserves, President Donald Trump announced.

“This Historic Transaction MORE THAN DOUBLES American Oil Reserves, greatly increases our Oil Supply, and will substantially lower Gas Prices for all Americans,” Trump posted on social media.

Venezuela’s interim President, Delcy Rodriguez, hailed the agreement as one that would help her nation’s economic revival.

Venezuelan opposition up in arms over reports US wants big stake in oil and gas

Reports that the US is preparing to claim a big stake in Venezuela’s massive energy reserves have sparked an outcry, with critics describing the move as “predatory” and a “rapacious” land grab.

Several media outlets this week reported that the Trump administration – which abducted Venezuela’s authoritarian president, Nicolás Maduro, in January and has steered the South American country ever since – hopes to secure long-term access to its oil and gasfields.

Venezuela has the world’s largest proven crude oil reserves with an estimated 303bn barrels, compared with Saudi Arabia’s 268bn and Iran’s 208bn.

Antifa Networks Panic After Trump Administration Sanctions Their Secret Tech Collective

Antifa Networks Panic After Trump Administration Sanctions Their Secret Tech Collective

In perhaps the most consequential move to date by the Trump administration to address the challenge of what it calls the “political terrorism” of the far-left, the U.S. State and U.S. Treasury Departments announced this week the designation of the Autistici/Inventati Collective, an Italy-based anonymous tech collective, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

As the State Department described in its official announcement, A/I Collective provides sophisticated tech tools for a variety of far-left extremist actors, including website hosting, a blogging suite known as “No.Blogs,” mail services, and similar tech services. Utilizing these anonymous tools, anarchist and autonomous groups issue communiques for designated terrorist groups, issue calls to commit criminal acts, and take credit for attacks against critical infrastructure and law enforcement both in the United States and abroad.

We Happy Few, We Band Of Wokesters

We Happy Few, We Band Of Wokesters

Assuming the ridiculous gushing over a Cambridge conman was not a national Monty Python sketch arranged for tourists, the Jason Arday affair reminded me of one of the most peculiar things about Britain: They’re more woke than the U.S. Which is weird, because the Mother Country still has a monarchy that rules over tens of millions of white subjects. The closest we have to that in America is the NAACP.

Make no mistake, Trump’s ‘Lake America’ nonsense is deadly serious

Make no mistake, Trump’s ‘Lake America’ nonsense is deadly serious

Donald Trump sat in the Oval Office at the White House on Thursday and used his signature Sharpie to sign an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as “Lake America.”

I expect there’ll be a flood of commentary mocking this as absurd, ridiculous, laughable. Why not “Lake Melania” or “Lake Natalie,” if you want to get into the latest rumours about Trump’s female companionship.

Or comments to the effect that this proves Trump has gone completely off the rails, that he’s a wingnut, an insane person.

Teacher Reprimanded for Wearing T-Shirt Stating Biological Reality

The new school year had not even officially started yet in Colorado Springs when an award-winning teacher found herself in hot water for wearing a t-shirt stating simply that men and women have different chromosomes.

Stacy Adair is a teacher for “English Language Learners” at Wilson Elementary School in Colorado Springs School District 11. When attending a teacher preparation day on August 6th, Adair chose to wear a t-shirt stating a simple biological reality: “XX≠XY.”

The great Covid reckoning – It’s essential to stopping the next pandemic

The great Covid reckoning – It’s essential to stopping the next pandemic

For six years, there was no accountability for Covid. How did the pandemic happen? Why was the response so economically, socially, and medically destructive? No one, it seemed, would be held accountable. Then, from near the top of the public-health establishment came a guilty plea. And Anthony “Tony” Fauci himself — the former national virus guru likely most responsible for Covid and the worst of the response — has established a defense fund to fend off legal threats.

What If Canada Joined the E.U.?

What If Canada Joined the E.U.?

In February, 2025, I met with a delegation of Canadian ministers visiting Washington, D.C. Their aim was to convince the Trump Administration, at the outset of its second term, of the virtues of collaboration and coöperation, even though President Trump had already signalled his intent to target a large number of Canadian exports for new tariffs. François-Philippe Champagne, then Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, stressed to me how difficult it would be to untangle the American and Canadian economies—enmeshed, as they are, in supply chains that run back and forth across the border and which were built on deeply held assumptions of mutual benefit. “If you want to achieve that vision of the ‘golden age’ of America,” Champagne said, quoting a tagline that Trump often deployed at the time, but which he rarely uses today, “If you want to make life more affordable for Americans, if you want to be more innovative, more competitive, Canada is not a problem. Canada is part of the solution.”

We are not a Euro-state and so forbidden from membership.

Even if considered a separation referendum for all of Canadian provinces should be mandatory.

Milo Yiannopoulos, a Right-Wing Provocateur, Is Arrested by ICE

Milo Yiannopoulos, a Right-Wing Provocateur, Is Arrested by ICE

The Trump administration said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Milo Yiannopoulos, the prominent right-wing agitator and early supporter of President Trump, at the New Orleans airport on Friday.

Public ICE detention records confirmed that Mr. Yiannopoulos was in custody, but did not say where he was being held. The Homeland Security Department said that Mr. Yiannopoulos had overstayed his visa and was issued a final deportation order in July. That order means Mr. Yiannopoulos faces possible removal from the country.

He was entertaining until revealed as unsustainably perverse.

Mark Carney is running out of excuses

Mark Carney is running out of excuses

So close, and yet so far. Only last week, Canada and the US were finally on the cusp of reaching a long awaited trade deal. Already Trump had announced the joyous news on Truth Social, already Canadian prime minister Mark Carney had celebrated securing the “best terms” for Canada and called for provinces to lift the ban on US alcohol.

Then, somehow, defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory. Late last Friday, Carney told Canadian negotiators to walk away, saying Washington was offering “a bad deal.” Trump promptly reimposed the 50 percent tariffs on goods imported from Canada that had been put on hold pending the signing of the deal. On Tuesday, August 25, Carney announced dollar-for-dollar retaliation, in what some are calling “the dumbest trade war in history.”

Carney has cynically stoked fear of America
