Canada to keep Gordie Howe Bridge toll revenue until project debt is cleared, Mark Carney says

OTTAWA — Canada won’t share toll revenues from the Gordie Howe International Bridge with the United States until the project’s debts are repaid, with Prime Minister Mark Carney stating on Thursday that the $6.4-billion crossing may run operating losses in its early years.

“It’s not splitting the tolls at the bridge. It is an agreement for 15 years to split net revenues,” Carney said at a news conference in London, Ont. “Any sharing of the toll revenue won’t happen until all of the debt is repaid.

Under the deal, the UK can send certain people arriving illegally on small boats back to France. In return, the UK has to accept an equivalent number of migrants who apply for asylum in the UK lawfully.

The husband of a Canadian woman now in ICE custody after she allegedly slapped a teenage girl wearing “patriotic-coloured” sweatpants is blaming “conservatives online” for her arrest.
