Canadian government urged to block data-sharing deal between Thomson Reuters and US ICE

A Canadian federal opposition party leader is calling on the Mark Carney government to block the latest data-sharing deal between US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Canadian media giant Thomson Reuters.

Avi Lewis, the federal leader of the New Democratic party (NDP), demanded on Tuesday that Ottawa address the contract and further restrict Canadian corporations from doing business with ICE, after Canada’s National Observer reported on the deal.

“My blood ran cold when I read about this development,” he added in a statement to the Guardian. “Complicity between Canadian corporations and ICE should absolutely be illegal.”

The recently-concluded World Cup was a revelation for me in so many ways. As it began, I decided that I was going to relax and enjoy as much of it as I could. My initial motivation was that I wanted to use it as a bonding thing with my daughter and her longtime boyfriend, who is really, really into soccer. He grew up playing soccer with one of the guys on the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT). I also reasoned that there is plenty to be annoyed at in the world, so all diversions are welcome.

Donald Trump has once again inspired anger and confusion in US allies and trading partners as he imposed a wave of tariffs on more than 80 countries, replacing an expiring global duty introduced earlier this year.

The new measures effectively replace blanket 10% tariffs that Trump imposed in February. The US supreme court ruled many of those were illegal. The new levies come in at between 10% and 12.5% on countries including the UK, Mexico, Canada, Australia, India, China and the 27 countries that make up the EU.

Carney’s bewildered because his ChiCom pals are big on slave labour.

Prime Minister Mark Carney says he “imperfectly” described the new deal to open the Gordie Howe International Bridge after the text of the agreement appeared to contradict his original explanation.

While attending the Calgary Stampede shortly after the deal was struck — but before the text was made public — Carney told CTV that bridge toll revenue would only be split with the U.S. after accounting for operating costs, including repaying the debt.

But that suggestion seemed to contradict the text of the agreement, which was only made public late Tuesday and made no reference to Canada’s debt.

He lied deliberately but this time his media misinformation apparatus couldn’t cover it up.

Assassin Vance Boelter is sentenced to die in jail for murdering Minnesota Democrat lawmaker and her husband…

The Minnesota man who pleaded guilty to murdering a top Democratic lawmaker and her husband has been sentenced to die in jail over the grisly killing.

Vance Boelter, 59, was handed two consecutive life terms plus 40 years in prison over the murders of House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and the shootings of state Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, who survived.

Boelter pleaded guilty last month to avoid the death penalty and instead agreed to the maximum sentence he could be issued short of capital punishment.
