Hailing Nolan for not needing AI or much by way of computer generated effects, Fortune published its July 21 article entitled, “He’s an analog man in a digital AI world’: Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ made back its $250M budget in 3 days without industrywide AI cost cutting.”

Berlin’s Senate Department for Interior Affairs confirmed that the fugitive suspect in a Saturday van ramming during Berlin Pride was shot dead in a police operation on Sunday.
The department functions as the Interior Ministry for the city-state of Berlin.
Berlin police also confirmed the operation, saying that they had localized the suspect at a garden allotment in Spandau on the western outskirts of the city around 6 p.m. local time (1600 UTC).
Berlin police shot at the suspect after he charged at officers while armed with a stabbing weapon, according to the statement.

Toronto police are investigating after two locations of Jewish-owned Kiva’s bagel bar were targeted in separate incidents Sunday morning, including one where a window was struck by gunfire.
In multiple posts to social media, police say officers were first called to the Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West area at around 8 a.m. after reports that a window at a Jewish-owned bakery had been struck by gunfire.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she does not plan to retaliate against U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of a 50 per cent tariff on Canadian goods with an alcohol ban.
She told her provincewide call-in radio show Saturday she is leaving it up to retailers and consumers to decide how to stock their shelves and whether to drink American products with the looming tariffs.
“People should understand that the Americans have not banned a single product from Canada from going into the United States, so it’s a pretty extraordinary measure to put a ban in place,” she said.

Canada admitted 20 per cent fewer permanent residents in the first three months of this year, with study permits and asylum claims also falling.

German police are hunting a member of the ‘Islamist scene’ after a van was driven into a crowd of people at a Pride parade in Berlin, killing at least one person.
The ‘brutal attack’ happened on Saturday evening just hours after the city’s annual Christopher Street Day (CSD) pride event began, with thousands in attendance for the celebration.
Police said a white van charged through the city’s central Tiergarten Park, near the Brandenburg Gate. Witnesses said several people were hit before the van crashed into a tree and the driver fled on foot.

Canada is mostly unaffected by a new U.S. tariff ostensibly targeting goods made with slave labour, business leaders, lawyers and economists say.
Late Thursday, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced that dozens of countries, including Canada, are getting hit with a new tariff because they either don’t have any system to bar goods with slave labour, or aren’t applying anti-slave labour rules effectively.
Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom are among the countries getting hit with a 10 per cent tariff, while other nations are seeing a 12.5 per cent levy.
