A labour shortage? What does that mean in Canada?
Apparently, it means that Prime Minister Mark Carney will muse about hiking our immigration intake to 500,000 people per year. 500,000 permanent residents a year is a historically unprecedented target, and Canada already came remarkably close to it in 2024.
In Canada, it is the federal government that decides who is legally permitted to come and work here from abroad.
