Taliban order women to wear burkas to access hospitals, charity says

The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have ordered female patients, caretakers and staff to wear a burka – a full Islamic veil – to enter public health facilities in the western city of Herat, medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) says.

MSF said the restrictions came into effect from 5 November.

“These restrictions further impede women’s lives and limit women’s access to health care,” Sarah Chateau, the agency’s programme manager in Afghanistan, told the BBC. She said even those “in need of urgent medical care” had been affected.

The poll surveyed around 2,000 Britons between October 31 and November 4 this year. Participants were aged between 16 and 75 years old, and were from a wide mix of ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds.

Toronto woman moving after home invasion, upset daughter who called 911 left on hold

Maryam Alavinasab sits at the dining room table in her two-storey home near York Mills Road and Leslie Street and cries, explaining she has barely slept in the past six days.

The mother of two daughters, aged 12 and 18, who moved to Canada from Iran seven years ago says she bought the home two years ago before gutting and re-designing it. The main floor bathroom, she says, even earned her a design award.

Israel passes first reading of bill proposing death penalty for people it deems terrorists

Israel’s parliament has passed the first reading of a bill proposing the death penalty for those it deems to be terrorists acting against the state – a requirement which means it is likely to be used only against Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks on Israelis.

The bill – which has been condemned by the Palestinian Authority and human rights groups – was backed in the 120-seat Knesset by 39 votes to 16.

Far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir – whose Jewish Power party brought the vote – celebrated late on Monday by handing out sweets.

“After the law is finally passed – terrorists will only be released to hell,” he said.

WARMINGTON: Toronto spits on veterans’ graves with land, slavery acknowledgements

Lest we forget our veterans who served and died in foreign wars and, instead, focus on exaggerated slavery and past colonialism.

Only in Toronto would we be as stupid and as insensitive as that.

Diane Francis: Joining Eurovision nothing more than a Carney vanity project

Mark Carney’s first federal budget as Prime Minister should be called the Eurovision Budget. It piles on debt and contains a $150-million allocation to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) — disguised as cultural investment — which includes, unbelievably, a plan for Canada to “explore participation” in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Eurovision is watched by 160 million Europeans annually and is a music contest. Carney wants Canada, which is not in Europe and not even a member of the European Broadcasting Union, to join the show. This is not parody. It’s in the 2025-26 federal budget.
