Terry Newman: Shopify CEO calls out Liberals’ ‘toxic’ foreign tech subsidies

Tobias Lutke, the CEO of Canadian tech giant Shopify, says the federal government should stop bribing foreign companies with taxpayer money to create jobs in Canada.
He was responding to Industry Minister Mélanie Joly’s X post celebrating foreign tech giant Nokia’s heavily government-funded Ottawa campus, which is now under construction.
What you are actually doing here is to bribe nokia to put these jobs into Canada by paying hundreds of thousands of dollars per job from taxpayer money. What this does is to lower the cost basis of nokia per employee. This has been going on for decades, called FDI which all civil… https://t.co/F2LUoDGCHA

Far-Left Mob Tries To Shut Down AfD Youth Launch

The German city of Giessen saw huge disruption on Saturday as thousands of far-left protesters tried to block the AfD from launching its new youth wing—forcing the meeting to be delayed and triggering a major police operation across the city.
Extreme left-wing groups began arriving early in the morning, with police warning of coordinated attempts to obstruct access to the venue. One group, “Resist,” openly boasted that it had blocked several routes and claimed to have gathered 15,000 supporters. In total, 23 separate rallies had been registered, and authorities expected around 50,000 protesters to descend on the city.

IS CANADA NEXT: The speech-law epidemic infecting the globe

From the UK to Iceland, it seems speech laws are taking over Europe.
What’s worse — this may not just be a trend for our European neighbors, but could also apply to North America — namely Canada.
Canada has free speech laws — known as freedom of expression under section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Children among four killed in horror mass shooting at birthday party in ‘targeted attack’ with gunman on the loose

Children are among four people shot dead in a horrific attack during a birthday party.
The shooting broke out at a banquet hall around 6pm on Saturday night in Stockton, California.
‘Tragedy of this nature is unthinkable and it absolutely breaks our hearts to have loss of life and to have loss of life to children,’ San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said.

GOLDSTEIN: The political plagiarism of Mark Carney

If, as the Liberals say, Pierre Poilivere is a terrible leader and the Conservatives are bankrupt of ideas, why does Prime Minister Mark Carney keep stealing them?
The latest example of Carney’s political plagiarism is his support for a new pipeline to deliver bitumen from Alberta’s oil sands to tidewater in B.C. and from there to Asian markets by ocean-going tankers.
Is drone terrorism coming to Britain?

Nobody has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Khor Mor gas field which cut power across most of Iraqi Kurdistan on Wednesday night. But whoever the perpetrator is, they have sent a clear message to governments around the world: non-state militant groups can now use relatively cheap, accessible technology to cause major disruption at a national level. This threat has not yet struck Britain, but most accept that it will at some point. The consequences are potentially disastrous unless we find solutions, and fast.
Earned Entitlements And Mass Immigration

In the shadow of well-meaning slogans and impassioned rallies, a quiet crisis is brewing—one that threatens the very systems built by generations of American workers. Social Security and Medicaid, two pillars of our social contract, are facing demographic and fiscal strain.
At the same time, a growing political movement seeks to legalize millions of illegal aliens, offering them a pathway to citizenship and, eventually, access to these entitlement programs—programs to which they haven’t, or have barely, contributed. The moral impulse behind this push is understandable. But the economic consequences, especially for older Americans and the rising generation, are rarely discussed with honesty.
Vancouver police seize fentanyl and grenade launcher in opioid-overdose crisis zone

BRITISH COLUMBIA — Vancouver police say they have seized a grenade launcher, four guns, and nearly 500 grams of fentanyl and other hard drugs from a fortified Downtown Eastside rooming house that was allegedly feeding a synthetic opioid supply line through the city’s most drug-ravaged blocks.
“Task Force Barrage has come to an end, but our work to curb violence and disrupt organized crime in the Downtown Eastside continues,” Sergeant Steve Addison said, adding “the proliferation of violence and weapons in some residential buildings continues to put the neighbourhood at risk.”
That neighborhood is permanently at risk. I used to live there a lifetime ago.
How ‘woke virtue signalling’ ruined Dungeons & Dragons

When Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer were recently asked to name their favourite scene in their Spielbergian series, they rewound to the very first episode, when the Hawkins kids get to grips with the pen-and-paper fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). “The kids playing Dungeons and Dragons in the basement…” Matt reminisced with Variety. “That’s the first time we had them in a room, in a set, performing a scene from the show with cameras running.”
Although the Duffers’ affection for D&D is genuine – talking to The Telegraph in 2016, they cited their teenage nerddom as an inspiration for the series – there are question marks over whether D&D players feel the same way about Stranger Things.
I have never played but do admire the game’s enduring popularity.
How Long Until White British Demand a System of Native Protection to Avert Violent Conflict?

In an earlier appearance in the pages of the Daily Sceptic, I suggested that Britain and much of Western Europe were adopting the pathologies of late-stage East European communism: systems drained of ideological vitality and surviving chiefly through performative pieties, bureaucratic coercion and the policing of thought. Not the brutalities of Stalinism, but a post-totalitarian order in which censorship is outsourced to HR departments and social exclusion takes the place of secret police. Somewhat uncharitably, I even suggested European leaders – Keir Starmer in Britain, Friedrich Merz in Germany – were beginning to acquire the physiognomy of those grey party functionaries once photographed beside malfunctioning hydroelectric dams.
The only reason I reached for the East European analogy was that dissent as an act of mental resistance has long been an intellectual preoccupation of mine. It drew me to the work of those like the Czech playwright Václav Havel whose essay The Power of the Powerless (1978) presented a remarkable evocation of a society exhausted by its own untruths, which struck me as increasingly resonant with our own times. Without that prior interest, the parallel would never have occurred to me.
A Question for Trump: Is It Time to Take a Page from Abraham Lincoln?

It is well-known that Abraham Lincoln launched an invasion without consulting Congress as the Constitution stipulated, but what is less well-known is his instructing his police to imprison thousands of dissident Northerners, lettres de cachet flying fast and furious; suspending the writ of habeas corpus; arresting critical newspaper editors and publishers and shutting down their telegraph communications; using troops to intimidate voters; remanding dissenting “copperheads” to Fort Lafayette, an institution earmarked for political prisoners; and compelling the judiciary to adjudicate on his behalf — for the most part, the judiciary complied. As we find in Roy Basler’s The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln was even ready to imprison any citizen who had the temerity to remain silent and not support his war aims. After all, Lincoln had a war to fight.
National Guardsman shot dead ‘was spat at by public’, says boyfriend as he reveals her selfless wish

The ex-boyfriend of the National Guardsman who was shot dead in Washington DC said she wanted to make a difference despite being spat on by the public.
Sarah Beckstrom, 20, succumbed to her injures on Thursday after her and fellow guardsman Andrew Wolfe, 24, were ambushed while on duty near the White House on Wednesday. Wolfe remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Her former boyfriend, Adam Carr, whom she dated for six years, said Beckstrom had been treated poorly while on duty.
