Diversity, the integration of people with widely diverging cultures, colors, and persuasions, is not always good.  Nor is diversity always the best idea for a group or nation that wants to cohere in its traditions and remain functionally intact.  It has become a glib aphorism, almost received scripture that “diversity is our strength,” but the reality does not bear that out, and I have seen no evidence that it is always true.  Quite the contrary.

Sohrab Ahmari, the author of The Unbroken Thread, opines that when a population devoted to specific traditional ideals that emerge from their religious or ethnic heritage gets too diverse, that population fractures and loses cohesion.  Introducing diverse foreign ideologies into a close-knit population can destroy it more easily than enhancing it.  If a group of Mennonites or Amish, for example, were to encourage diversity of faith and practice, it would risk the disintegration of their unique culture.

When Gurpreet Singh packed his bags last fall and arrived in Ontario from India, he soon learned there was one thing some fellow Indians in Canada hadn’t left behind in their home country — their prejudices.

The human resource management student at Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., said he is viewed as an outcast in the ancient South Asian social structure known as the caste system, but faces more discrimination from Indians in Canada than he did in India.

“I have been here for roughly five months and I have faced it in a way more aggressive or aggravated form in this country from my own Punjabi community,” Singh said. “They beat their chest with pride that they come from this caste or that caste.”

Clearly they have internalized the white man’s racism.

DEI will only die when we realize no good can come from racial resentment

Monsters, of course, come in a variety of shapes and forms, but they have some deep commonalities. Among these are a voracious appetite, an affinity for darkness, and a talent for evasion. They are hard to kill and very dangerous, especially to the innocent and the naïve. Often they inspire a perverse kind of worship.

I have been thinking about monsters as I contemplate the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) mandates that have swept through the nation’s schools, colleges, and businesses, and nearly every other institution of note. The National Archives has a “Diversity and Inclusion Program.” So does Major League Baseball. So does the American Public Gardens Association.

One is hard put to find a significant public body that is not committed to DEI.

The pilot of a private jet whose five crew and seven passengers were arrested in the Dominican Republic over a 460-pound cocaine haul was previously involved in a notorious domestic abuse trial.

Aatif Sadfar is one five Pivot Airline crew members who are currently being held in the Caribbean Island.

He and his colleagues were arrested in Punta Cana on April 5 after narcotic agents discovered the massive drug shipment before the aircraft was set to depart for Toronto.
