The more woke a company is, the fewer minorities want to work there.

‘A more diverse business is a more successful business.’ This has been the mantra of HR managers, business-school professors, CEOs and the Wall Street Journal for several decades now. The ‘business case for diversity’ is that companies whose staff represent a range of different identities are more profitable than those that employ only old white men. In other words, it makes financial sense for businesses to get on board with equality, diversity and inclusivity initiatives.

The relationship between “racialized” groups and Canada’s national security and intelligence institutions — like the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canada Border Services Agency — continues to be bogged down by mistrust, says a new external report prepared for the federal government.

“We frequently heard about the trust gap between the country’s national security institutions and Canadians, and in particular with racialized Canadians,” says the report drafted by the National Security Transparency Advisory Group (NS-TAG) — an independent and external body first set up in 2019 to advise the deputy minister of Public Safety and the national security and intelligence community.

“At times, these relations have been marred by mistrust and suspicion, and by errors of judgment by these institutions, which impacted communities have perceived as discriminatory.”

Does anyone who doesn’t live in a gated community or who can’t afford private security guards really believe that diversity is a virtue?

Following the leak of the draft Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on abortion, first-year Yale Law School student Shyamala Ramakrishna referred to members of the Federalist Society as “Christo-fascists.”

The Washington Free Beacon added nonchalantly, “Some of her classmates were less moderate.” You might agree. The Free Beacon quoted another first-year student, Melisa Olgun, as saying: “Neither the constitution nor the courts—nor the f—ing illusion of ‘democracy’—are going to save us. How can we possibly expect a document, drafted by wealthy, white, landowning men, to protect those who face marginalization that is the direct result of the very actions of the founders?”

Diversity, the integration of people with widely diverging cultures, colors, and persuasions, is not always good.  Nor is diversity always the best idea for a group or nation that wants to cohere in its traditions and remain functionally intact.  It has become a glib aphorism, almost received scripture that “diversity is our strength,” but the reality does not bear that out, and I have seen no evidence that it is always true.  Quite the contrary.

Sohrab Ahmari, the author of The Unbroken Thread, opines that when a population devoted to specific traditional ideals that emerge from their religious or ethnic heritage gets too diverse, that population fractures and loses cohesion.  Introducing diverse foreign ideologies into a close-knit population can destroy it more easily than enhancing it.  If a group of Mennonites or Amish, for example, were to encourage diversity of faith and practice, it would risk the disintegration of their unique culture.

When Gurpreet Singh packed his bags last fall and arrived in Ontario from India, he soon learned there was one thing some fellow Indians in Canada hadn’t left behind in their home country — their prejudices.

The human resource management student at Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., said he is viewed as an outcast in the ancient South Asian social structure known as the caste system, but faces more discrimination from Indians in Canada than he did in India.

“I have been here for roughly five months and I have faced it in a way more aggressive or aggravated form in this country from my own Punjabi community,” Singh said. “They beat their chest with pride that they come from this caste or that caste.”

Clearly they have internalized the white man’s racism.
