“The City of Toronto will again paint circles on the grass at Trinity Bellwoods Park to encourage people to practise physical distancing while using the park,” the city said in a statement released Friday. “Installation work will begin next week depending on weather conditions – the paint requires dry, sunny weather to cure properly.”
Ontario is reporting 4,094 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 52,200 tests completed. Locally, there are 1,191 new cases in Toronto, 1,014 in Peel, 406 in York Region, 226 in Niagara and 199 in Durham.

COVID-19: Public Health Ontario confirms 36 cases of B.1.617 variant now in province
Public Health Ontario (PHO) has confirmed 36 B.1.617 variant cases, the so-called “double mutant” variant of COVID-19 first detected in India, have been confirmed across the province.
In a statement to Global News Friday evening, the agency said six cases were detected through its genomics surveillance program.
As usual Trudeau acted too late.
More COVID-19 patients dying at home, Ontario coroner says
At least 25 people have died in their homes rather than in hospitals or nursing homes since April 1, Dr. Dirk Huyer told CBC News Friday. There could be more cases that his office is unaware of, he added.
The new reality is a deviation from earlier waves of the pandemic, when most COVID-19 deaths took place in nursing homes and hospitals. It goes to show how dangerous the current caseload is in Ontario, Huyer said.
He said he was particularly troubled that some of the people who’ve died at home were in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

“We have more pregnant women in ICUs than any time in the country or this province,” said Dr. Mark Walker, a high-risk obstetrician and epidemiologist in Ottawa. “The situation is urgent for pregnant individuals to get the vaccine.”
Someone who doesn’t know much about a topic can at least have the awareness to realize they are ignorant and can listen to those who are wiser. Hajdu doesn’t even seem capable of that.
The CDC had previously deferred on the question of receiving a vaccination while pregnant, recommending that women consult with their doctors on the issue rather than issuing sweeping guidance. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky cited a study Friday showing that 35,000 women who received the vaccine in their third trimester had no adverse effects.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MUTANT: Indian researchers identify new strain of mutated B.1.617
Just two weeks after Indian researchers identified the new ‘double-mutant’ B.1.617 COVID-19 strain, a consortium of scientists in that country have uncovered a new mutation that shows an even stronger resistance to antibodies.
Dubbed B.1.618, the new variant was found in samples taken in West Bengal, the easternmost state in India that shares a border with Bangladesh and home to Kolkata, the nation’s seventh-most populous city.
‘More people are catching on’: Travellers using U.S.-Canada land border to avoid quarantine hotels
Greg Peacock walked across the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, Ont., and back into Canada with his three puppies in hand, pausing to take some selfies, but he didn’t cross here for the view.
He chose this particular point of entry from the United States to avoid the mandatory three-day stay at a quarantine hotel that applies to air travellers entering Canada.
“I don’t want to spend three days or whatever it is locked up at a hotel when I’m back in Toronto to do work,” he said.
Hospitals in the province are required to halt all non-emergent surgeries and non-urgent procedures immediately as people with COVID-19 continue to fill up hospitals and put the healthcare system under strain amid the third wave.
Quebec has identified its first case of the B.1.617 variant of COVID-19 that originated in India and is believed to be fuelling the pandemic surge in that country.
The case was identified in a patient in the Mauricie region, north of Trois-Rivières, officials with the Institut national de la santé du Québec (INSPQ) confirmed Wednesday.

Left-wing magazine Slate took the stunning and brave step Saturday of publishing an article outlining the case for no longer wearing masks outside.
‘As we’ve come to know more about the virus, as vaccinations are ramping up, and as we’re trying to figure out how to live with some level of COVID in a sustainable way, masking up outside when you’re at most briefly crossing paths with people is starting to feel barely understandable,’ the author reasoned.
