Pierre Poilievre’s push to keep convention focused on economy falls to grassroots votes for social policies

QUEBEC CITY—Efforts by Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to keep his party focused on an economic message to win the next election took a blow Saturday as the party’s grassroots voted in favour of social policies likely to give the Liberals a renewed line of attack.

The majority of party members voted in favour of a ban on providing medical or surgical treatments to minors questioning their gender identity, as well as one that voiced support for “women-only” spaces like bathrooms.

What sort of monster gets their jollies from mutilating children?  I wonder at the medical schools that churn out Mengele’s spiritual offspring.

… Little wonder, then, that Poilievre walks quickly backward from any argument with the Liberals over immigration numbers. The current Conservative leader hasn’t minded lifting a few pages from Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada — globalist conspiracies included — but he hasn’t joined the “no mass immigration” chorus of the Bernier crowd.

Sorry Star, people don’t blame immigrants for the housing crisis they blame our corrupt political class, their crony capitalist pals and their lickspittle journalist hirelings.

A deplorables moment? Questioning mass immigration makes you part of the “Bernier Crowd” according to Delacourt who works for the corporate welfare parasite Toronto Star. After all, it’s racist to resist having your economic and physical security sacrificed for the corporate bottom line.

As Justin Trudeau prepares his cabinet ministers’ marching orders, he should consider putting a new item on the list — resurrecting the per-vote subsidy for federal political parties.

Currently, parties are financially dependent on donors, who are often moved to give in response to emotional messaging. That’s why the parties focus on identity politics — why we hear so much about abortion rights, gun laws and “Liberal censorship.” It’s why we see fundraising notes from the Conservatives warning “Canada’s democracy is in danger.”

… Changing the way parties are financed by adopting a per-vote subsidy — and reducing contribution limits for political donations — could be part of the solution.

Nearly 60 per cent of Canadian parents fear for their child’s financial future: survey

A new survey conducted by TD Bank Group shows that nearly 60 per cent of Canadian parents are concerned about their children’s financial future, primarily due to the impact of inflation and the prevailing economic uncertainties in the country.

According to the survey published on Wednesday, an overwhelming majority of surveyed parents (89 per cent) believe that their confidence in their children’s financial future would improve if their kids gained better financial knowledge before their teenage years.

The survey also found that 66 per cent of parents are not highly confident in their children’s current financial knowledge.

Concern is what parents do but we do not live in ordinary times.

Our government is run by sanctimonius idiots who believe destroying the wealth of our nation will bend the planet to their will.

Our education system is overrun by perverts and no longer fit for purpose.

Few can afford rent let alone dream of purchasing a home yet the political class insist mass immigration is the answer to all ills.

It isn’t, it is the ill.

Majority of Canadians Oppose Government Funding of Newsrooms, Media Outlets: Poll

The majority of Canadians oppose government funding of media organizations and newsrooms, and most want the consolidation of news outlets discouraged in order to maintain healthy competition in the industry, according to a new Angus Reid survey.

A July 13 news release from the polling company says that two possible solutions to declining newsroom revenues, a reduced workforce of journalists, and fewer readers have been rejected by Canadian poll respondents.

Liberals’ convention pitch to fight online disinformation denounced as assault on free press

Without debate, Liberal Party members passed a policy resolution to combat online disinformation this weekend that critics warn could give the government control over Canadian media outlets.

The resolution calls for the Liberals to “explore options to hold online information services accountable for the veracity of material published on their platforms, and to limit publication only to material whose sources can be traced.”

“It’s deeply troubling this was sort of waved through at the Liberal convention,” said University of Ottawa law professor Michael Geist.

Recent debate about defunding the CBC often misses an important distinction — the problem isn’t that the CBC has a partisan bias per se, it’s that the organization has this bias while being a state broadcaster.

It’s natural, indeed beneficial, for news organizations to have political biases of some sort. A democratic society thrives when it maintains a vibrant marketplace of ideas, and that marketplace is healthiest when different ideological groups are represented, and empowered, by affiliated media outlets.
