Liberal Party Scraps Netflix Tax Decides It’s Easier To Make You Pay For All That CanCon Crap You’ll Never Watch

Ottawa plans to end ‘Netflix tax,’ replace with public Canadian content funding: document

The federal government will “eliminate” the financial contribution requirement for streamers set by the CRTC and replace it with government funding, it said in a court document.

“We are instructed to inform the court that the government’s intention is to eliminate the base contribution requirement on streaming services and to provide government funding to replace those contributions,” the attorney general’s office said in a document dated July 17.

But the Canadian Association of Broadcasters says it has heard a different message.

So called “Canadian” woman accused of spying at NATO on behalf of Carney’s security partner China worked for multiple Liberal government agencies

So called “Canadian” woman accused of spying at NATO on behalf of Carney’s security partner China worked for multiple Liberal government agencies

The Canadian woman recently arrested by Belgian authorities on suspicion of spying appears to have worked for multiple government agencies before her NATO internship.

A CBC News investigation has identified the woman as Biwei Zhang, a systems engineer with a background in economics whose online resume suggests she previously worked for the Canadian Space Agency and Statistics Canada.

Zhang’s public and professional profiles match the information Belgian prosecutors provided, which described the suspect as a “Canadian national of Chinese origin” who was an intern at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), the military headquarters of NATO in Mons, Belgium.

Carney will welcome her home and allow her to return to China.

Marty York: Carney’s antisemitism council fiddles while Jewish businesses burn

Members of the Canadian Jewish community, particularly in Toronto, are apoplectic with rage after a pair of bagel shops were damaged on Sunday, in what police are investigating as an antisemitic hate crime.

One of the bakeries, in the beating heart of midtown Toronto, was hit by gunfire. The other is located at the northern tip of Toronto and is rich with Jewish heritage. Both are owned by Kiva’s Bagel Bakery and Restaurant, a beloved Toronto institution that has been cherished by many, including myself, for decades.

This useless committee has devolved into a victimhood contest.

Joel Kotkin: Immigration alone won’t solve Canada’s population decline

This year, Canada’s population decreased, the first time since Confederation 160 years ago.

The reasons vary, but include a reduction in mass immigration, a very low birthrate and a stagnant economy sending ambitious Canadians to — horror of horrors! — the brutal nation just to the south.

That decrease is smoke and mirrors. The Liberals continue to import replacement migrants.

Jews Are Leaving Canada in Droves

Jews Are Leaving Canada in Droves

Gad Saad has lived in Canada since his family fled Lebanon in 1975 after someone showed up at their home to kill them. But last month, the professor of marketing and evolutionary behavioral sciences announced on social media that he had given up on Canada and decided to leave.

“The taxation system is astounding, rendering it nearly impossible to accumulate enough money to truly retire,” Saad wrote about the first reason for his decision. It’s true. The typical Canadian pays 70 percent more in income taxes than the typical American. The second reason is far more alarming. “The government’s open immigration policies have made it unsafe for my family to remain here (due to the exponential increase in Jew-hatred),” he wrote.

Touched in the head Liberal Sports Minister thinks men should be allowed to compete in women’s sports

OTTAWA — Canada’s top federal sports official says he’s “concerned” about new eligibility rules limiting Olympic women’s events to biological females, but says the changes are unlikely to stop Canada from trying to host the Olympics in the future.

Secretary of State for Sport Adam van Koeverden told reporters in Calgary on Monday that he was worried about the International Olympic Committee’s plan to roll out mandatory genetic screening for all athletes competing in the female category.

Canadians returning from ISIS ‘highly likely’ to pose threat, intelligence report says

A group of Canadians detained overseas for allegedly being part of ISIS will “highly likely” pose a threat when they return home, warns an intelligence document obtained by Global News.

The Integrated Threat Assessment Centre report was written in June, after Iraq said it had taken custody of an unspecified number of ISIS members from Canada.

The suspects are liable to contribute to extremism once they returned to Canada, “either directly through an act of violence or indirectly by radicalizing others,” the intelligence report said.

Bet they’re considered cultural assets by the LPC.

Indian students arranged marriages of convenience for spouse work permits to Canada, warned New Delhi migration official

The number of Indian undergraduate students applying to come to Canada has dropped over the past few years, in part because Ottawa ended a program granting the spouses of international students work permits, an internal government communication shows.

The communication discloses how marriages of convenience by some Indian students had enabled their spouses to accompany them to this country to work and to help them pay for their studies.

Canada refuses to reveal cost of Gordie Howe bridge toll deal as Trump demands more revenue

Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson is refusing to disclose how much Canadian taxpayers could lose under a new toll-sharing arrangement for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, as U.S. President Donald Trump pushes for an even larger share of the bridge’s future revenues.

The issue overshadowed Friday’s ceremonial opening of the Windsor-Detroit crossing after Trump publicly declared that the original bridge agreement “no longer stands” and suggested the United States deserves more than the recently negotiated revenue-sharing deal.

LILLEY: Mark Carney claimed he thrives in a crisis. His record suggests otherwise

Mark Carney sold himself as the leader Canadians would need in a crisis. After more than a year in office, voters are increasingly questioning that claim.

In fact, a new poll from the Angus Reid Institute shows that just 43% now believe Carney can deliver a good deal with the Americans, the thing he promised in the last election, down from 51% in April.

GOLDSTEIN: Why natural gas is crucial to Canada’s economic growth

If Prime Minister Mark Carney is going to fulfil his promise to make Canada a conventional and green energy superpower, fossil fuels are going to be instrumental in achieving it.

Among Carney’s major economic goals are:

Doubling Canadian exports to non-U.S. markets in a decade.

Doubling Canada’s residential construction rate to 500,000 new homes per year in a decade.

Liberals don’t get to define patriotism

Liberals don’t get to define patriotism

Conservatives have every right to criticize Prime Minister Mark Carney and his government, and to suggest this indicates disloyalty to Canada is absurd.

It’s to be expected from Liberal MPs (which does not mean all Liberals) who view themselves as Canada’s natural governing party, who see Conservatives as not simply wrong but evil, and that no criticism of their Great Leader is ever justified.
