Spain is bracing for a possible second mass migrant crossing into Ceuta as the political fallout from last week’s unprecedented border breach spreads from Madrid to Brussels.
The Guardia Civil is closely monitoring social media messages calling on migrants to gather in the Moroccan border town of Castillejos on August 15 before attempting to enter the Spanish enclave.
Police pepper-sprayed a woman in a wheelchair during the violent anti-migrant protests in Thetford, locals have claimed.
The woman is said to have been among a largely ‘peaceful’ protest when the crowd became ‘rowdy’ and officers used the device.
Norfolk Police have been defending their handling of the violence and disorder in the market town, which began on Tuesday.
Police have detained six people following several nights of unrest in Thetford that led to officers having to evacuate asylum seekers from their homes.

OTTAWA — The Carney government has quietly walked back some of its cuts to a program providing temporary health-care coverage to refugees and asylum-seekers, months after slashing benefits for some of Canada’s most vulnerable newcomers.
Earlier this year, following a budget pledge to lower funding, Ottawa introduced changes to the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), which provides health care to resettled refugees and asylum claimants who are waiting to qualify for provincial or territorial insurance.
Beginning in May, most people eligible for the program were required to pay 30 per cent of costs for health services, assistive devices and medical supplies that had previously been covered, along with $4 for prescription medication and refills.
A market town has been engulfed by violence and disorder on two nights this week after angry residents stormed houses rumoured to be used by asylum seekers.
Frustration exploded into fury at three properties on Tuesday in Thetford, Norfolk, following weeks of protests at a nearby former military barracks which has already been earmarked to take 1,250 male migrants.
It continued last night, when two officers needed hospital treatment – one who was hit by a rock and another who was ‘seriously bitten’ during another protest. Three arrests have been made.
Thetford finally forced their hand.

The “Allahu Akbar!” screaming invaders — some 60,000 military-aged Moroccans with nothing but the clothes on their backs — were dumped into Ceuta to destroy it. The laxer ones did their part by turning the streets into toilets and the fountains into bathtubs (two ways of killing beauty fast). The friskier ones waged war against the city and its people. They set cars afire. They cracked open and looted homes and businesses.
The 26-year-old Afghan man who confessed to dumping the remains of a dead British woman in Greece has been identified as boxer and migrant Sharif Ahmadzai.
Ahmadzai, whose identity was disclosed by local and international outlets, reportedly arrived through a migrant boat on the Greek island of Lesbos in 2016. His story as a migrant was the center of an animation published by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IRFC) nine years ago.
An activist group in Toronto is offering private meetings to “undocumented” migrants who wish to gain access to public services and permanent residency.
The Migrant Workers Alliance (MWA) posted on its social media accounts, with a graphic asking: “Undocumented in Toronto? Nanny, personal support worker, or caregiver?”

The invasion last week of the Spanish city of Ceuta by some 60,000 Moroccans, mostly young military-age men, was a useful demonstration of how mass migration and indeed entire populations can be weaponized and deployed in what amounts to hybrid warfare against sovereign nations.
In this particular case, the reason for the deployment likely has to do with the Moroccan state’s longstanding irredentist claims in North Africa, which include the coastal enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla—the plazas de soberanía along the North African coast that have belonged to Spain for more than four centuries but which Morocco has claimed since its independence in 1956.
The Moroccan invasion of Spain happened for 3 reasons, 2 of which involved open borders decisions by Spanish authorities, and a crucial one of which was the decision by PM Pedro Sanchez to provide legal status to 500,000 migrants.

An Afghan professional boxer who arrived in Greece on a small boat before marrying an American Christian has been arrested over the murder of Briton Elisabeth-Jane Ross in Athens.
Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, is suspected of killing the 38-year-old, who was also known as Lisa, before putting her body in a bag and dumping it in a derelict building.
Detectives trawled CCTV which allegedly shows him leaving the apartment where Ms Ross was staying with a suitcase and dropping it where her remains were found on July 16.

It is estimated that more than 50,000 migrants crossed entered the small Spanish enclave of Ceuta in the course of a single day after the border effectively collapsed.
Ceuta, an autonomous city, sits on Morocco’s northern coast. The Spanish government has said almost all of the migrants have since returned to Morocco, and at least 57 have died.
Faced with doubts as to how and why this was able to happen, the public was left with only footage and photographs: people swimming and climbing onto Ceuta’s Tarajal beach, tens of thousands in a single day and night, scores dead.

A growing chorus of voices have accused Morocco of helping to fuel the crisis in Ceuta, with the leader of the Spanish enclave describing last week’s border crossings as an attack on Spain’s territorial integrity that was seen as being “if not orchestrated, at least encouraged or permitted by Morocco”.
Spain’s interior ministry said late last week that 48,300 of the roughly 50,000 people who had turned up in Ceuta, a tiny Spanish territory in north Africa, had been sent back to Morocco. The extraordinary influx had overwhelmed the city of 84,000 and set off a political crisis across the EU as some member states laid blame on Spain.
