Amid the international clamour over Ceuta, the Spanish city invaded by 60,000 migrants from Morocco, there has been a noticeable hush from one quarter: the Left.

There have been no rallies in solidarity with the Moroccans, no celebratory tweets from the Greens’ Zack Polanski. Labour backbenchers seldom silent on these matters can be heard on neither television nor radio.

It is as though socialists and other progressives recognise that events on the shores of the Mediterranean expose the grim reality that underlies their utopian worldview. Their dream, when put into practice, becomes a nightmare.

Spain attacks ‘selfish’ response of some EU countries to Ceuta migrant crossings

Spain has condemned the “selfish, polarising and unlawful” reaction of some EU countries to the influx of about 60,000 migrants from Morocco to Ceuta.

Officials say almost all those who reached the enclave on 30 July have returned, while Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said on Saturday that the death toll had risen to at least 67.

It comes after Italy temporarily suspended the EU’s border-free Schengen arrangement with Spain, as Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the scenes “shocking”.

Collectively boasting over 230,000 members, these groups served as hubs for prospective migrants to plan sea routes, exchange phone numbers, buy border-crossing equipment, and coordinate logistics. The closures come amid videos on social media attesting to more than 50,000 migrants having already successfully arrived in the small Spanish enclave bordering Morocco, pushing local security and reception resources to their limits.

Can we say ‘invasion’ now? What other word is there for the rough intrusion of tens of thousands of young men into the sovereign territory of a foreign nation? Surely not even the sappiest leftist in his tattered keffiyeh and ‘Refugees Welcome’ t-shirt would describe the thuggish gatecrashing of an independent nation as ‘asylum seeking’? That might be the one and only upside to the extraordinary events in Ceuta yesterday: the death, at last, of euphemism. The impossibility of any longer dressing up the West’s suicidal abandonment of its borders as ‘kindness’.

There is talk that Morocco orchestrated the invasion, an act of war in my view.

The footage from Ceuta and Melilla, Spanish enclaves in North Africa where thousands of illegal migrants have rushed past the Spanish borders, ought to be of grave concern to all patriotic or sovereignty-minded people in Europe and beyond.

The scale and pace of this mass violation of the Spanish and, therefore, of the EU border are suggestive not of what the EU prefers to term ‘irregular migration’ or of ‘humanitarian need’ but of an invasion. Despite the pleas of local officials, the Spanish state has sat back whilst tens of thousands of Moroccan residents blatantly violate all norms and laws of national sovereignty in what appears to be a coordinated attempt to render these Spanish territories unviable as Spanish.

About 60,000 migrants arrive in Ceuta in 24 hours, Spanish territory’s leader says

About 60,000 migrants have crossed into Spain’s North African territory of Ceuta from Morocco in the last 24 hours, Ceuta’s president says.

At least 34 people have died during the crossing, Juan Jesús Vivas said during a news conference.

The influx comes after Spain’s Supreme Court ruled this month that migrants stopped at sea while trying to reach Ceuta or Melilla, another Spanish exclave, cannot be summarily returned to Morocco.

Will the Commie Spanish government authorize use of force? Doubtful.

Furious Spaniards have been forced to chase migrants down the streets of their home after thousands of migrants flooded the enclave this afternoon.

Extraordinary footage showed huge numbers of people sprinting up beaches, swimming ashore and dispersing into the streets of the tiny Spanish territory of Ceuta, which borders Morocco, with some shouting ‘Long live Spain’.

Crowds, which officials estimated to have been made up of 20,000 people, were seen swimming out to bypass a long border fence that juts out into the Mediterranean on the Moroccan side, before swimming back on the Spanish side.

CEUTA, Spain (AP) — Authorities in Ceuta asked the government in Madrid to declare a national emergency and requested army intervention, as thousands crossed into the tiny Spanish territory.

Videos shot at Tarajal beach showed crowds of people, mainly Moroccans, walking around the breakwaters and running on the beach and roads. While the majority appear to be young men, there were also families with women and children. “Viva España!” some shouted to a freelance photographer working for The Associated Press filming the scene.

Montreal refugee advocates say they are hearing from a growing number of Haitians in the United States who are considering coming to Canada after the Trump administration moved to end deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of people.

“They’re real stressed. They don’t go out. They stay in their apartment,” said Thierry Jean-Baptiste of the Bureau de la communauté haïtienne de Montréal (BCHM).

“They order groceries. They are in fear of ICE.”
