Consensus analysis of the 2025 election results includes this thesis: centre-left ‘progressive’ voters abandoned the NDP and voted for the Liberals under Prime Minister Carney and gave him his victory.
Why? Two broad reasons: 1) to unite against Donald Trump and 2) to unite against the possibility that Pierre Poilievre could be prime minister.
Of course, there is more to it than that, but there’s no question that the worst showing for the NDP in history was accretive to the Liberals and that ‘progressive’ voters gave Mark Carney his victory against Pierre Poilievre despite Pierre’s strong showing – the best vote percentage for a Conservative campaign since 1988.
There’s just something so lovely and peaceful about liberal women. They are never nasty, never vulgar, and are always encouraging us to be kind. 🕊️

President Donald Trump joined Fox & Friends Saturday morning to discuss the U.S. operation to capture Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.
President Trump praised U.S. forces who participated in the execution and planning of the operation, saying that “no other country on Earth could pull it off”
… After Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the U.S. operation, President Trump issued a stern rebuttal.

“Today begins a new era,” declared Zohran Mamdani upon his swearing in yesterday as New York City’s 112th mayor. “Beginning today, we will govern expansively and audaciously. We may not always succeed. But never will we be accused of lacking the courage to try.”
Inaugural ceremonies aren’t usually a forum for deep deliberation and rational discourse. But a new leader’s words are rarely disconnected from his underlying philosophy. Mamdani’s inaugural comments therefore give us an idea of what to expect: claiming to represent “all” New Yorkers, the new mayor will work quickly to push through decisions unpopular at best, and harmful at worst.

Freedom of information documents reveal a stark double standard inside the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, where Islamophobia is woven deeply into the curriculum across math, art, literacy and social studies, at the expense of antisemitism education.
Despite Jews facing the overwhelming majority of hate crimes in the region, the subject of antisemitism barely earns a handful of standalone handouts.

Since the end of Iran’s 12-day war with Israel, there has been mounting evidence that its regime has been ramping up missile production. Tehran’s perspective is straightforward: if its nuclear program has become more vulnerable, then its missile arsenal must increase as a compensatory tool of power.
It is no secret that the Iranian regime has been accelerating and expanding its ballistic missile program at an alarming pace, and has invested heavily in improving the range, accuracy, survivability, and payload capacity of its missiles. These missiles – now part of reportedly the largest missile arsenal in the Middle East – can reach not only regional targets but also the U.S. and Europe, a senior Iranian lawmaker has openly boasted.
Some Haitian migrants arrested in Quebec on Christmas Day deported to U.S.
Some of the 19 migrants of Haitian origin arrested in Quebec on Christmas Day have been deported to the United States.
Canada Border Services Agency says the migrants’ asylum claims were processed and those who were deemed inadmissible were sent back south of the border.
In an emailed statement, the agency didn’t say how many would-be refugees were deported.

The Venezuelan dictator was in a supposed safe house when the Delta Force commandos burst in just after 2am and snatched him and his wife, before his security team had time to secure the property’s final defence of two heavy steel doors. Even if they had, the Americans were armed with blowtorches.
Within minutes Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores were being flown by helicopter across a moonlit Caribbean Sea to the USS Iwo Jima, an amphibious assault ship. They are expected to be sent to a New
York federal detention centre before facing trial on drug trafficking charges.
The swiftness of the capture has led to speculation that Maduro may have been betrayed by someone in his inner circle. His personal security was understood to have been overseen by Cuba.

Pet food inflation isn’t a lifestyle story, at least, not anymore.
For years, pet ownership in Canada has been framed as a lifestyle choice. A dog is a companion. A cat is a comfort. In public discourse, pets are often treated as discretionary luxuries – nice to have, but optional.

Have you ever wondered why Democrats are so aggressively defending rampant fraud in Minnesota? Why Gov. Tim Walz so desperately wants to handle the investigation on his own? There’s a simple explanation: it has nothing to do with protecting vulnerable communities or fighting discrimination. Democrats are shielding these schemes because they profit directly from them.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Thursday put to rest any lingering doubt about whether or not he is a communist, when he said, to the disgust of people worldwide who have lived under the boot of socialist tyranny, “We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.” Hardest hit, however, although they will never, ever admit it, much less issue a retraction or an apology, are the many leftist establishment media news outlets that insisted during Mamdani’s mayoral campaign that he was not really a communist at all.

Maggie Hildebrand’s first apartment in Toronto had a kitchen, a dining table, a workspace and a bed – all in the same 300-sq-ft room.
It was a decent home at first, close enough to her job downtown and with all the bare necessities for daily living.
But it didn’t take long for the 28-year-old to feel boxed-in. “It was so isolating in that tiny space,” she told the BBC. “It definitely feels like it’s just somewhere to put worker bees during the night.”
