The breakdown of trade discussions between the United States and Canada has resulted in Prime Minister Carney turning to expanded trade with Europe. That raises two fundamental questions:

First, Canada already has a free trade agreement with the EU: the Canada-European Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Canada also has the Trade Continuity Agreement (TCA) with Britain, and an agreement with European Free Trade Association (EFTA), whose members include Iceland, Lichenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Given that we have these agreements with virtually all of Europe, what does “turning to Europe” mean exactly?

The Green party’s open declaration of war on Britain’s Jews is not really about the Green party or Britain’s Jews for that matter. The party is just a vessel for a form of politics and Jews are a perennial scapegoat for that politics. The Greens have adopted a resolution declaring Zionism to be a form of racism – a ploy originally devised by the propagandists of the Soviet Union – while rejecting an amendment that said Jewish party members should not be targeted for attending synagogue, the vast majority of synagogues naturally being Zionist in orientation.

And so goes Canada.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney’s description of possible U.S. military action against Canada as an “extreme tail risk” raises a question Canadians deserve to have answered clearly: what does preparing for such a contingency actually tell us about the danger?

Carney said the scenario was “not a base case,” but that it would be irresponsible not to prepare. Canadians should understand that distinction: a government can examine a highly unlikely event because its consequences would be catastrophic. The existence of a contingency assessment does not, by itself, establish that an attack is expected.

Canada will need “substantial and sustained” defence spending increases to meet its NATO obligations by 2035, a new report from the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) states.

The Liberal government has not yet revealed how it intends to reach the target of spending five per cent of GDP on defence within the next decade — a significant jump that would see core defence spending increase from $95.7 billion in 2030 to $163.7 billion in 2035-36.

A 15-year-old supporter of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party was arrested in Britain after he made jokes about a local Conservative Party politician online.

The schoolboy, only referred to as Fraser, was arrested by four officers from the West Midlands Police at his home in the early hours of August 3rd. He was taken from his family home and searched in front of his neighbours, locked in a cell, fingerprinted, had a mugshot taken, and had a sample of his DNA taken. Meanwhile, two officers searched his bedroom, and he was pressured to hand over his phone for other officers to search.

Prime Minister Mark Carney faced pointed questions Monday about his government’s “Buy Canadian” agenda after a Toronto Star analysis found American-controlled corporations received an estimated $7.8 billion in federal contracts during his first 16 months in office.

The analysis found that U.S.-controlled multinationals have dominated Ottawa’s largest contracts under Carney, with the share of federal procurement dollars going to American-controlled companies rising from about one-fifth before he took office to nearly a third under his government.

The polling institute YouGov recently asked: “Do you think Angela Merkel, as chancellor, would be better, worse, or just as well suited as the current chancellor, Friedrich Merz, to solving the problems and challenges Germany faces today?” The result: Forty-eight percent of Germans believe Merkel would be better suited than the incumbent Friedrich Merz to solving today’s problems. Twenty-nine percent thought Merkel would be just as well or as poorly suited as Merz. Only 8% thought Merkel would be worse. Fifteen percent gave no answer.

A Monday Instagram post praising Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks sparked conflicting messages from a trio of New York City Democratic Socialists of America groups.

The three groups initially posted the statement jointly with other activist organizations to announce an Oct. 7 protest at New York City Hall, prompting criticism, according to news reports and screenshots posted online. New York City Young Democratic Socialists of America and the City College of New York’s YDSA chapter then removed themselves from the pro-Hamas post, while the third, New School YDSA, still featured it on its account as of Tuesday.
