The woman who accused bestselling author and former University of British Columbia (UBC) professor Steven Galloway of rape was sexting with her (now) ex-husband throughout the night of one of the alleged assaults.

Galloway’s accuser and former affair partner, known only as A.B. due to a publication ban, claimed to have been assaulted in Galloway’s office at UBC on May 5, 2011. Her ex-husband testified in B.C. Supreme Court Monday, that he and A.B. messaged back and forth the whole night. Several of these text messages, which were shown in court, were sexual in nature.

This is brutal.

The rape allegations that destroyed professor Steven Galloway’s career a decade ago were never actually tested. Indeed, the woman who made them isn’t planning to defend their accuracy in a defamation trial scheduled to start next month.

If it sounds like you’ve heard about this case before, you probably have. Galloway, an author and member of the University of British Columbia creative writing program, had an affair with a grad student older than he was, starting in 2011. Both of them were married at the time. It ended sometime in 2013 — and then, the student began telling people she’d been raped.

According to Jane Doe, the woman who claims she was gang raped by seven members of the Chi Phi frat house at Cornell University in the early morning hours of October 20, 2024, the men gave her drugs and alcohol until she was too incapacitated to know they were raping her.

Steven Galloway’s accuser, known only as A.B. in his defamation trial, sought more than $3 million in damages from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the wake of her unproven sexual assault allegations.

On day four of the trial, and day three of his testimony, Galloway’s lawyer, Daniel Burnett, introduced a February 2017 email, containing a draft statement of claim, between A.B.’s former lawyer, Joanna Birenbaum (who stopped representing A.B. before this trial), and UBC lawyer Hubert Lai. The statement of claim included six requests for $500,000 in various damages, in addition to punitive damages.

Major media outlets apparently left out what seem to be the four most exculpatory words — “our body our choice” — that a former Cornell University student texted to one of her alleged rapists days after the incident.

Her texts actually get worse.

“Sexual liberation” was a classic product of 1960’s youth culture—self-involved and ignorant of human nature. It denied the profound differences between the sexes, including the male and female libido and different emotional responses to coitus. But progressives block any attempt to restore essential norms of sexual prudence and instead layer onto this primal, complicated instinct absurd bureaucratic rules regarding “consent.” Jane Doe is the poster child for the disaster wrought by those self-indulgent adolescents frolicking naked in the mud of Woodstock.

Bestselling author Steven Galloway told court Wednesday allegations that he sexually assaulted a former student three times were pure fiction and that he didn’t learn of the details until after he was suspended as head of the creative writing program at the University of British Columbia.

After nearly 11 years, Mr. Galloway testified in open court about the allegations as part of a defamation case he brought against the woman, with whom he had a two-year affair, and three others he accuses of defaming him. He called the allegations “absolutely” false.

When Steven Galloway’s wife tried to tell the courtroom how the children of the household have been affected by their father’s (and stepfather’s) decade of living under unproven sexual assault allegations, her words turned into sobs.

Katie Wagner testified that, since they and the rest of the public learned of the allegations, Galloway hasn’t been able to attend events at the kids’ schools knowing that other parents had read all the stories about him. And of course, the kids know, too.

Look up travesty.

In 2015, when the University of British Columbia began to reckon with sexual assault allegations by a mature student against Steven Galloway, the school’s most high-profile creative writing professor, it had the help of an inquisitor.

Chelsea Rooney circulated the unproven allegations that Galloway had raped a student (which were later found to be unsubstantiated by a retired judge tasked with investigating the affair for UBC) and did her best to gather more, contributing to the obliteration of his reputation and career. Now, a decade later, she’s walking it all back with a profuse apology, printed in the Saturday Post.

In her apology, which has also been posted online-09jnn, Rooney admitted that her understanding of and approach to the “believe women” movement was “misguided.”

At long last, billionaire Frank Stronach’s high-profile sex assault trial has sputtered to an end.

Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy told the 93-year-old she hopes to have a decision by June on whether the former auto parts magnate is guilty or innocent of sexually assaulting three young women more than 40 years ago.

It’s difficult to “trust all women” when the crown does such a poor job.
