Four men are charged with race hate offences ‘after shouting antisemitic abuse as they drove around in cars covered in Palestinian flags in north London’

Four men have been charged after allegedly shouting antisemitic abuse as they drove around in a convoy in north London.

The suspects, all from Blackburn, Lancashire, are accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words likely to stir up racial hatred.

Mohammed Iftikhar Hanif, 27, of Pringle Street; Jawaad Hussain, 24, of Revidge Road; Asif Ali, 25, of Pringle Street; and Adil Mota, 26, of Leamington Road, were charged via postal requisition on September 16, and are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 6.

While 2020’s coronavirus had awards shows very scaled down, the party only got bigger this year. Many viewers and fans on social media, Twitter and beyond certainly had something to say about the celebs sitting in close proximity to one another during the telecast.

Biden easing foreign air travel restrictions but not at land borders

President Joe Biden will ease foreign travel restrictions to the U.S. beginning in November, allowing foreigners to fly into the country if they have proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test, the White House said Monday.

The new rules will replace a hodgepodge of restrictions that had barred non-citizens who had been in Europe, much of Asia and certain other countries in the prior 14 days from entering the U.S. The changes will allow families and others who have been separated by the travel restrictions for 18 months to plan for long-awaited reunions.

The White House also indicated that restrictions on non-essential travel from Canada and Mexico through land borders will remain in place through Oct. 21.

I am not sure why the land borders remain shut unless the Americans know something about Canada that we peons don’t.

Vatican Closes Its Doors to Those Without a Coronavirus ‘Green Pass’

ROME — The Vatican City State announced Monday that effective October 1 no one can enter its territory without presenting a coronavirus Green Pass, by order of Pope Francis.

The Green Pass can be obtained by showing proof of vaccination against the coronavirus, demonstrating recovery from the coronavirus, or by showing a negative rapid antigen or PCR test, the Vatican ordinance states.

With a pipeline of hundreds more flooding across the Rio Grande from Mexico every day, a humanitarian disaster was unfolding and the media were starting to pay attention.

OPP charge couple over alleged $11M COVID-19 theft

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a married couple linked to the alleged theft of $11 million in provincial COVID-19 relief funds.

Sanjay and Shalini Madan face money laundering and possession of stolen property charges.

They appeared in a Toronto bail court on Sunday. Sanjay has been remanded in custody until a hearing Wednesday while Shalini was released.

Police charged Sanjay Madan, 56, with two counts of fraud and two counts of breach of trust. He and Shalini Madan, 52, were also charged with laundering the proceeds of crime and possession of stolen property.

Of all America’s pin-ups, from Rita Hayworth to Pamela Anderson, Jessica Rabbit may be the most unusual. The redheaded femme fatale is tall, sultry and spectacularly curvaceous. She is also a cartoon.

Now the nightclub singer from the 1988 comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit is again breaking a mould, this time as the latest symbol of cultural revisionism in Walt Disney’s worldwide theme parks.

Last week the Walt Disney Company announced that it was updating the Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin ride at Disneyland in California to reinvent Jessica as a lead character with an agency of her own rather than a slinkily dressed victim of male violence. She will no longer be the louche character Kathleen Turner breathed into cinematic life with the immortal line, “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way”, but a female detective cleaning up a weasel crimewave in 1947 Los Angeles — much as the late Bob Hoskins’s private eye character Eddie Valiant did in the original film.

A snap election that was supposed to be a show of strength has instead allowed opponents to highlight the prime minister’s weak points.

BURNABY, British Columbia — Outside a TV studio in a Vancouver suburb where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada was recording an interview days ahead of the country’s election, a man shouted insults, mostly obscene, about Mr. Trudeau and his family while blasting Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” from a stereo on a cart.

Heckling is something Mr. Trudeau has always faced, but this time the attacks have new bite. After six years in office, a prime minister who promised “sunny ways” and presented himself as a new face is now the political establishment, with a track record, and missteps, for opponents to criticize. Even if the Liberal Party clings to its hold on Parliament, as observers expect, this bruising election campaign has done him no favors.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases now stands at 709, down from 719 yesterday and 732 more than two weeks ago.

U.S. lawmakers push Biden to lift Canadian travel restrictions

WASHINGTON — Four U.S. senators on Friday asked U.S. President Joe Biden to lift restrictions that have barred travel by Canadians across the northern U.S. border since March 2020.

Democratic Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Jon Tester of Montana and independent Angus King of Maine asked Biden to allow Canadians vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel to the United States before October. The border state senators said in a letter the restrictions have led to “economic and emotional strain in our communities.”

The COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese company CanSino, with whom Ottawa partnered before the deal fell through, used technology developed in a 2016 paper on Ebola by a now-fired scientist from a government laboratory in Winnipeg and a Chinese major general, an expert says.

The government’s partnership on the clinical development of the CanSino vaccine, first announced on May 12, 2020, fell apart on Aug. 26, 2020, after Beijing blocked shipment of the vaccine to Canada.

We’ll Pay You Not to Shoot

San Francisco will provide monthly stipends to discourage gun violence.

San Francisco has a new plan to stem a recent surge in deadly shootings: pay potential shooters. That’s the principle behind the city’s new Dream Keeper Fellowship, which will enroll 30 individuals deemed at high risk of shooting or being shot and pay them a $300 monthly stipend. They can collect an additional $200 per month for completing such milestones as taking job interviews, complying with probation, or meeting with the life coach assigned to them.

The program has a certain logic. Crime is a highly concentrated phenomenon: in San Francisco, police analysis has found that just 12 criminal gangs are the major drivers of shootings. If incentives work, then paying people not to shoot could conceivably drive down crime.
