China’s ‘staggering’ military build-up is a wake-up call for US

China is investing heavily in combat drones, including electronic warfare versions that would play a significant role in any attack on Taiwan.

However, more than anything else, the huge inventory of anti-ship ballistic missiles poses the gravest threat to United States aircraft carrier strike groups that represent America’s most potent projection of naval firepower in the Indo-Pacific region.

China has taken giant steps towards its dream of maritime superpower status with a warship-building programme that outmatches the US.

NATO chief tours Arctic defences as Canada comes under pressure to guard the Far North

NATO’s secretary general is getting an up-close look at Canada’s northern defences Thursday as he visits the Arctic — a region of escalating geopolitical competition.

Extremists plan ‘autumn of rage’ to exploit cost of living crisis in Germany

Spy chiefs are warning of violent protests that could shake the foundations of the nation’s democratic system

At first glance it was just another bad day in a rotten week for Olaf Scholz. A week ago the German chancellor travelled to Neuruppin, a small town 40 miles northwest of Berlin, to deliver a routine speech to a sympathetic audience of 300 people or so.

Instead he found himself drowned out by a din of boos and taunts from 300 protesters gathered outside the cordon around the square: “liar”, “piss off”, “traitor to the people”. So far, so normal in today’s Germany.

A political revolt is brewing in Germany

The coalition government is out of touch with what voters want

… The coalition government of Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals looks out of touch with a voter base that has recently shifted in a dramatically pro-nuclear direction. Several polls have shown that at least 60% of Germans want to postpone the phase-out of nuclear, including a surprising 61% majority among supporters of the Greens.

Is Pierre Poilievre really a freedom fighter?

Bad man.

“Young people want freedom from the woke control freaks in government, media and academia,” Pierre Poilievre said recently on Twitter. “That is why they are supporting my campaign to put them back in charge of their lives.”

Mr. Poilievre’s campaign for the federal Conservative leadership has been successful, and he’s now in a strong position to win the September vote. But to what extent are the many people buying into his freedom pitch aware of his track record on that very subject?

That’s two anti-Poilievre pieces today.

Axe the fertilizer ban

At a time of accelerating inflation and energy and food insecurity, Canadians concerned about their economy are right to suspect the federal government is not being honest or transparent about the implications and costs of its aggressive “Net-Zero Transition” to a “greener” economy. To the legislative overhaul marked by the carbon tax, clean fuel regulation and capping and reducing oil and gas sector GHG emissions is now added an arbitrary target for fertilizer emissions.

Former Rolling Stone Editor Has the Perfect Analogy for the FBI’s Raid of Mar-a-Lago

Not all liberal writers sip the Kool-Aid, and Matt Taibbi is one of them. The former contributing editor for Rolling Stone ditched the publication to write exclusively on Substack for obvious reasons; many of his pieces wouldn’t pass the quasi-politburo system established at most liberal publications. The only rule is don’t make the Democrats look bad.

“Get Trump!” Damn the Constitution

There is a movement afoot to “Get Trump,” at any cost. The goal is to prevent him from running in 2024. Many in this movement are willing to use any means to attain what they believe to be a necessary and admirable goal. “Democracy is at stake,” they claim. They are prepared to sacrifice constitutional rights, civil liberties, principles and the rule of law to stop former President Donald Trump.

Video shown to Denver students: Do not call the police in case of racist attack

Students at Denver’s South High School were shown a video that explicitly warned against calling the police in the case of a racist or transphobic attack, claiming law enforcement officers have been trained to view members of minority groups as “perpetrators of violence.”

“Armed police presence often escalates, rather than reduces, the risk of violence in a situation,” the video’s narrator says. “Because police have been trained to see people of color, gender nonconforming folks, and Muslims as criminals, they often treat victims as perpetrators of violence.”
