Caught on Camera: SPD Politician Charged Over Attack on AfD Rival

German prosecutors have charged two men with aggravated assault over the attack of an Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) councillor, including one suspect identified by German media as a local Social Democratic Party (SPD) politician. The case and the filed charges reflect increasing political violence against right-wing politicians.

Montreal shooting sparks renewed calls to ban SKS rifles

Montreal shooting sparks renewed calls to ban SKS rifles

A prominent gun control advocacy group is repeating its call for an immediate end to new sales of SKS rifles following the deadly shooting in Montreal on Monday.

Although police have not publicly confirmed which type of firearm was used by the suspect in the shooting that left Montreal police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane and civilian Michel Mizrahi dead, Radio-Canada has confirmed it was an SKS rifle — a semi-automatic rifle of Russian origin that dates back to the 1950s.

In a media statement Thursday, the group PolySeSouvient urged the federal Liberals to halt new sales of SKS models, saying it would close an obvious gap and send a clear signal.

The Fat of the Land: Weight-Loss Drugs Have Their Uses

The Fat of the Land: Weight-Loss Drugs Have Their Uses

Let’s set aside the basic moral argument and my aversion to people being given things they haven’t earned, which you may also share. Over time, I’ve actually softened my stance on this. It simply isn’t within everyone’s power—reasonable power—to be in good shape. A child has no control over what its parents feed it. The decision to raise a child on a diet of ultra-processed food, starting with formula instead of breastmilk, can essentially set it up to fail for life. An overweight or obese child raised on ultra-processed food will continue eating ultra-processed food as an adult and face problems around eating that a child raised on proper home-cooked food will not.

In the UK, the average two- to five-year-old now derives two-thirds of his or her daily calories from ultra-processed food. The U.S. isn’t far behind that dismal figure.

I am taken aback at the rapid adoption of these drugs.

Christine Van Geyn: A family found ancient remains on their property. Their nightmare was just beginning

Christine Van Geyn: A family found ancient remains on their property. Their nightmare was just beginning

The Reio family was supposed to be living the Canadian dream. After a lifetime of hard work, they had saved money to buy a small lot with a modest home on the shores of Lake Erie. It was where they planned to spend their retirement. The existing bungalow needed work, but the Reios were ready to build their dream. They planned a small renovation that would involve keeping the existing foundation but building a slightly larger home with a second story and two bedrooms for their adult children and, one day, maybe grandchildren. The work began in 2024, and that’s when the Reios’ nightmare began.

Socialism Just Had a Shocking Come Back. We Need a Better Response

Socialism Just Had a Shocking Come Back. We Need a Better Response

When President Donald J. Trump not only won the 2024 presidential election, but won it with a popular majority, it seemed like the Left was finally dead.

We’d dutifully (and successfully) boycotted Bud Light; parents were making headlines as heroes in the fight against boys in girls’ bathrooms and sports; companies were quietly gutting their DEI departments; and even demographics traditionally the unquestionable property of the Democrat Party had decided the grass was greener and the promises better on the populist side of the fence.

Half-Tonne of Opium Lands at a Troubled B.C. Port, and a Surrey Arrest Points to a Widening PRC-Mexico-Canadian Drug Pipeline

VANCOUVER — The container arrived carrying twenty industrial rolls of paper, and concealed inside ten of them was 520.6 kilograms of opium — the raw material of the Big Circle Boys’ heroin trade that drove Vancouver’s overdose deaths for decades, before fentanyl exploded in the Downtown Eastside around 2012.

What a new report reveals about the true cause of Canada’s massive emergency wait times

What a new report reveals about the true cause of Canada’s massive emergency wait times

CALGARY – A new report suggests the causes of Canada’s long emergency department wait times often lie far beyond the emergency room itself, with shortages in hospital beds, long-term care and community supports creating a bottleneck that is leaving some patients waiting days for care.

“This is a national problem. Every province is struggling with this,” said Dr. Paul Parks, president-elect of the Alberta Medical Association’s Section of Emergency Medicine and an emergency physician.

The report, released Thursday by the Canadian Institute for Health Information, found that one in 10 emergency department patients — about 1.5 million people — spent more than 14 hours in the emergency room in 2024-25.

“Increased population” was cited by an Alberta Doctor, not the report.

Turkey: Hamas’s Safe Haven and the West’s Dangerous Blind Spot

As the Trump Administration seeks to stabilize the Gaza Strip through its “Board of Peace” initiative, one participant stands out as particularly ill-suited for the role of mediator: Turkey.

The inclusion of Turkey in any effort to disarm Hamas or promote peace in the Middle East would be laughable if the stakes were not so high. For years, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his government have served as some of Hamas’s most loyal supporters and protectors.

GOLDSTEIN: Carney’s green energy plan built on nuclear power and natural gas

GOLDSTEIN: Carney’s green energy plan built on nuclear power and natural gas

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plan to use nuclear power and natural gas to cement Canada’s status as a global clean energy superpower should have started a decade ago under Justin Trudeau.

The question now is whether Canada can make that plan a reality at “speeds not seen in generations,” given the 10-year delay in starting it.

Doug Ford government rejects Ottawa’s offer to allow rural employers to hire more temporary foreign workers

Doug Ford government rejects Ottawa’s offer to allow rural employers to hire more temporary foreign workers

Ontario will not allow rural employers to hire more temporary foreign workers to fill low-wage jobs, says the province’s immigration minister.

Citing the high youth unemployment rate, David Piccini said in a letter to Ottawa that the province is not interested in raising the cap on the ratio of low-wage, temporary foreign workers permitted from 10 per cent to 15 per cent of a rural employer’s workforce.

In March, the federal government announced to relax the rules because some rural communities continued to face acute labour shortages due to low unemployment rates, and ongoing challenges in attracting, recruiting and retaining workers.

Condo bail outs for wealthy Liberal donors and cheap labour galore for Carney’s corporate cronies.

Elbows Up means means a smash in the face to Canadians.

Maybe Ford has realized his buddy Mark is not all he’s cracked up to be.
