Sixty-one percent of Canadians say the country’s economy is performing poorly and 43 percent anticipate economic decline in the next six months, a new survey suggests.
Just 33 percent of Canadians surveyed in the Leger poll released this week rated the national economy as “good” or “very good” and only 15 percent said they expect it to improve this year.
Almost one quarter of European voters now back parties labelled “far-right” by a partisan research network that has repeatedly been criticised for weaponising the term.
According to a new report tracking election results across Europe, the share of voters supporting national conservative parties has increased nearly fivefold since the mid-1990s, with particularly rapid growth over the past three years. The findings were enthusiastically reported by the UK’s left-wing Guardian newspaper, which also happens to be a partner organisation of the researchers behind the study.
A new survey shows a close race between incumbent Toronto mayor Olivia Chow and her rival, Brad Bradford, ahead of the election on October 26.
Data from Mainstreet Research revealed that, when undecided voters were removed from the equation, close to 38 per cent of respondents said they would vote for Brad Bradford if the election were today, putting him within six points of Chow’s 43.6 per cent.

In March, the Israeli ambassador to Canada, Iddo Moed, characterized Canada as “one of the centres of antisemitism globally.” Also, Toronto Rabbi Daniel Korobkin of Beth Avraham Yoseph synagogue (which had its front doors shattered from gunfire) stated: “What our message needs to be to our leaders is that if nothing is done, then you’re sending a message: ‘They can go ahead and go to the next level.’”
There is usually a very singular and overarching explanation from much of the British establishment when working-class communities express anger over such issues as immigration, crime or economic decline: they must have been manipulated into thinking that way. And when, after years of not having their voices heard, this anger bubbles up into rioting – never a good idea, never to be encouraged, but often understandable in its sentiment – the same explanation comes out again.
