JD Vance said on Friday that the US wins “either way” regarding negotiations with Iran, pointing to what he called the destruction of its nuclear program and diminishment as a country.

“If we make the final deal, then great,” the US vice-president told HBO’s Bill Maher. “If we don’t make the final deal, their nuclear program is still destroyed. They’re still much weaker as a country, so my attitude is America wins either way.”

Regina cult members pausing use of speakers used to amplify call to Satan in city’s downtown

REGINA — A Regina mosque is pausing announcements of the Muslim call to prayer that rung out from its rooftop speakers after receiving some pushback.

M Anisur Rahaman, the director of Regina City Jamia Masjid in downtown Regina, told a news conference Friday that some were threatening to remove the speakers while others were angry the weekly prayer was happening.

Complaints started pouring in last week, after a local social media account posted about it, he said.

How Iran devastated an American naval base—and caused a US recalculation

When the Iranian missiles and drones came for the nerve center of America’s naval operations in the Middle East, some of them hit their mark.

The U.S. Navy base in Bahrain was repeatedly targeted between late February and June. Strikes that got through caused extensive damage, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of satellite imagery, social-media footage and interviews with current and former servicemembers—damage that the Pentagon hasn’t publicly acknowledged. Hit hard were the command headquarters and at least a dozen other buildings, along with two satellite communications terminals.

The military said no one was killed at the base, known as Naval Support Activity Bahrain, and that the strikes didn’t significantly impact operations. The U.S. evacuated most personnel but has kept a small staff on the ground.

‘Every dollar counts’: Pride Toronto seeks help to close $700K shortfall

Just one year after warning it faced a $900,000 funding shortfall, Pride Toronto says it is still staring down a roughly $700,000 deficit despite cutting programming, reducing staff and securing new sponsors.

The organization, which runs North America’s largest Pride festival, confirmed the news to CTV News Toronto on Wednesday, adding that “every dollar counts” and they are hoping members of the public, the government and corporate sponsors can help ease their financial pressures.

Crucial window for rescuing survivors narrows as Venezuela enters third day after deadly twin quakes

LA GUAIRA, Venezuela (AP) — The situation has grown more desperate by the hour in Venezuela as people dig through the rubble of collapsed homes and apartment buildings three days after the devastating one-two punch of 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes, knowing time is running out to find survivors.

Authorities announced Friday night that they would block access to La Guaira, the epicenter of the destruction, as chaos and traffic were hampering search efforts. Officials said anyone who wants to enter would now have to seek official permits, but provided few details of who would be allowed in. More than 14,000 members of the military and police are patrolling the area, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez said on state television Saturday.

Sweden Democrats Launch Online Map Tracking Mosques Across Sweden

The right-wing Sweden Democrats (SD) have expanded their online migration map by introducing a new filter showing the locations of mosques and Muslim prayer facilities across Sweden.

The initiative is intended to provide the public greater with insight into the growth of Islam in the country.

According to SD MEP Charlie Weimers, the new feature identifies 238 mosques and prayer venues, together with information on their religious affiliation and, where known, sources of funding.

Is high-speed rail the best way to spend $90-billion?

On Monday, federal Transportation Minister Steven MacKinnon announced that he’d like to see a change in the proposed route for Toronto-to-Quebec City high-speed rail. He called for a detour through, and stop in, Kingston.

It would only add a few minutes to the journey, he told The Globe and Mail.

The chief executive officer of Alto, the Crown corporation planning the line, echoed his political master. “It may add a couple of minutes,” Martin Imbleau told the Ottawa Citizen. “It would be marginal.”

An Afghan migrant accused of raping two 14-year-old girls has blamed ‘Satan’ for ‘losing control’ as he drank alcohol.

Sultani Bakatash, 29, is said to have plied both teenagers with vodka before ‘seizing the opportunity to rape and abuse them’ in December last year at his Bolton flat.

He earlier pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape; two counts of assault by penetration; and sexual assault.

Only 530 Recruits Join German Military Under New Voluntary Scheme

Germany’s voluntary military recruitment drive has yielded just 530 new recruits from almost 300,000 18-year-olds contacted this year, prompting harsh criticism of the government’s plans to rejuvenate the country’s armed forces.

Five months after the launch of Germany’s new military registration system, the Defence Ministry said it had sent questionnaires to 298,200 young men and women who turn 18 in 2026. While completing the questionnaire is mandatory for men, women are invited to participate voluntarily.

FERGUSON: Canadians should reject the attempt to minimize their history and culture

Recent statements by Canadian politicians show that the Canadian political class wishes for Canadians to apologize for their history and minimize the qualities of their culture. Contrary to those statements, Canadians have little to apologize for and much to be proud of. Former prime minister Justin Trudeau famously remarked that Canada is a “post-national state without an identity.” Current Prime Minister Mark Carney recently remarked while in Ireland for the G7 summit that Canada is “a mosaic of cultures, not a melting pot.” In 2025, BC New Democratic MLA Rohini Arora said that Canadians should consider themselves to be “colonizers.” When Trudeau says that Canada does not have an identity, it minimizes the historical exceptionalism and qualities Canada has. As the current Prime Minister is attending an international event peddling Canada as a middle power, he is making the case that all cultures are compatible with Canadian culture. The comments from the New Democratic MLA in BC attempt to ensure that Canadians think their culture is so inferior to other cultures that Canadians should only consider themselves to be colonizers.
