By the end of next year, electricity suppliers will be able to remotely turn down heat pump central heating to help Britain’s energy system cope with high demand.

Suppliers are expected to do so on the instructions of the quango responsible for coordinating the grid, which is overseen by Ed Miliband’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

“The USA struck a great deal with respect to the Gordie Howe Bridge,” he wrote in a social media post on Saturday. “Before this deal we got NOTHING. Now, the U.S. gets 50% of net revenues until 2041 and a say in setting the tolls. Our share is before interest and principal.”

Polish prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old Ukrainian citizen, identified as Illia K., with carrying out 47 criminal acts on behalf of Russian intelligence in an alleged effort to inflame tensions between Poland and Ukraine.

Arrested in August 2025, he faces life imprisonment on charges that include recruiting accomplices through encrypted messaging apps and paying them with cryptocurrencies registered in Russia and China. He is also accused of preparing to fly a drone over President Karol Nawrocki’s motorcade during last year’s Armed Forces’ Day parade in Warsaw. He was arrested three days before the event.

A month ago, I was visited by a representative from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). He raised a simple question.

“Would you be willing to establish and lead a new advisory council for the US Government on the science of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena?” In other words, would I head a council on UFOs. I responded: “You had me at ‘hello.’”

There was no doubt in my mind that I should accept this role. Our goal is to advise the U.S. government on how to resolve the nature of UAP.

A temporary resident named Karandeep Singh was convicted of sexual assault in Prince George, B.C., last month, but — after the judge heard that Singh faced potential deportation — he was exempt from the national sex offender registry.

There was a time when this would have been impossible, as the written law requires all sexual assault convicts to be placed on the registry. In 2022, however, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled this to be unconstitutional and downgraded the registration of sex offenders from mandatory to optional. Whether to put someone on the list was left up to individual judges, who were much more merciful than Parliament.
