Conrad Black: Carney squanders all his goodwill on bloated budget

No Canadian federal budget in my conscient lifetime, going back to finance minister Walter Harris in the St. Laurent government, has been as noisily hyped or widely anticipated as the Carney-Champagne budget of this past Tuesday, and none has been such a stultifying anti-climax. What was promised was a cornucopia of “generational investments” that would ”define our next century” by making a series of “difficult choices (and) sacrifices.” The same prime minister who is in a photo finish with his British analogue Keir Starmer for who can be more obsequious to President Donald Trump, but who promised to keep his ”elbows up,” promised also to “swing for the fences” in the budget with intermittent hints of ”austerity.”

Craft brewers push back against Senate bill mandating cancer warnings on beer

Small breweries across Canada say a proposed Senate law forcing cancer warning labels on alcohol would saddle them with massive costs and needless red tape.

Blacklock’s Reporter says Bill S-202, introduced in the Senate as an amendment to the Food and Drugs Act, would require all alcohol products to display health warnings about the risks of consumption.

Has the Left Moved on From Climate Change?

Not this guy.

Average Americans have moved on from climate change, and the Left is pretending to not care either.

No one cares about climate change anymore.

According to research by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, media coverage of climate change has dropped by half since 2023. The decline also shows up in Google searches for “climate change,” which have also decreased by half since 2023.

NYPD already losing officers with morale plunging as anti-cop Zohran Mamdani prepares to take reins

An NYPD exodus is already underway, with a surge of officers quitting in the month leading up to anti-cop socialist Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral win — and more might go if Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch exits, according to data and department sources.

The NYPD saw a 35% hike in cops of all ranks leaving in October – 245 police officers compared to 181 in the same month last year, according to Police Pension Fund data.

Deportation must mean deportation, not debate

How many times do we have to circle the same argument before we finally stand firm on what’s right? A man convicted for his role in the violent killing of a McMaster student more than a decade ago has again won the chance to stay in Canada. Luis Carlos Rebelo was ordered deported six years ago after being convicted of manslaughter in the senseless death of Tyler Johnson. He’s now being given yet another opportunity to argue why he should be allowed to remain in this country. That is unacceptable.

Poilievre’s Conservatives struggling to stay united, source says, as Carney government survives a second budget vote

OTTAWA—The dramatic defection of a Nova Scotia Conservative MP to the Liberals, and the looming exit of another Tory, capped a week of political intrigue that ended with Mark Carney’s government surviving two big budget challenges and still facing a third, but saw bigger questions swirling around Pierre Poilievre’s grip on his own caucus.

As many as 10 to 15 MPs in Poilievre’s caucus are “very frustrated” with him and his senior leadership team, according to one source with knowledge of internal Conservative caucus dynamics. Another suggested “several” MPs have concerns, but many other Conservatives, and Poilievre’s senior leadership team, are closing ranks to insist Poilievre’s leadership is secure.

The Anti-American Terror State: Iran’s Regime Must Not Be Allowed to Rise Again

Please do not think that just because Iran took a few hits in June that their threat is over, or that the Iranian regime has learned its lesson or is going to change. Iran’s is not a normal political system that responds to diplomacy as other governments do. Iran’s regime is fundamentalist — built on a radical ideological foundation. Iran’s regime defines its very existence by confrontation, expansion and violence.

EYRE: What would Queen Elizabeth I think of Canada’s crazy spending?

Give the highest priority to finance. That was Queen Elizabeth I’s top rule of her famous “nine principles of power.”

Aside from “never marry” — she was the “Virgin Queen” after all — QEI’s rules are as relevant today as they were 500 years ago. Pick wise counsellors. Avoid war. Beware new-fangled innovation for the sake of it. Improve the usefulness of existing institutions.

The View: Conservatives Don’t Live Up to Our ‘Certain Caliber of Guest’

Throughout the first week of November, ABC News’s The View used their Behind the Table podcast to vent about all the criticism they were receiving about their staunch stance of rejecting conservative guests who would give the co-hosts a hard time. The View started receiving flak after co-host Joy Behar declared that conservatives were “afraid of us,” and has dismissed all their new challengers as not meeting the “certain caliber of guest” the show was used to having.

B.C. ostrich farm is ‘ground-zero for change’ as family reels from shooting cull

EDGEWOOD, B.C. — Katie Pasitney, whose mother co-owns the British Columbia ostrich farm where hundreds of the birds were shot dead in a cull ordered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, says she is focused on creating change for other farmers.

Standing on the highway overlooking the field where the cull took place Thursday night, Pasitney says the CFIA’s so-called stamping-out policy is “broken” as it fails to prevent mounting outbreaks of avian influenza in B.C. and other parts of Canada.

‘Couldn’t stomach it’: Ostriches loaded in bins after shooting cull stuns protesters

EDGEWOOD, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA — It had taken more than 10 months before the first gunshots marked the beginning of a cull of hundreds of ostriches at a British Columbia farm that was ordered during an avian flu outbreak last New Year’s Eve.

But it was over within hours of starting on Thursday night, and by Friday afternoon supporters of the farm that had fought the cull were watching Canadian Food Inspection Agency workers in white protective suits begin disposing of the carcasses.

Somali Clan Feuds and the Minneapolis Election

We all know that on Election Day, New York City began a death spiral so steep that it will terminate in a smoking hole in Dante’s Ninth Circle. Things were not looking much rosier in Minneapolis, where Omar Fateh made his own mayoral run. Fateh, an American and Minnesota state senator, with Somali parents and a socialist (of course), was running on a platform of standing up to Trump, protecting illegal immigrants, a $20/hour minimum wage, replacing some police visits with mental health crisis responders, and environmental justice, among other things.
