Dems and Republicans unite behind a common enemy: Flock cameras that are ‘documenting everybody all the time’

In our intensely divided moment, there’s one thing that the right and left seem to agree on: they hate Flock cameras.

The cameras are installed in most urban areas across the country and record the license plate number of every car that drives past them, storing information about people’s movement in a database, for use by local governments and police departments.

According to the company, Flock has 120,000 active cameras across the United States. Many police departments and investigators claim they make solving crimes and locating individuals easier than ever.

Germany approves lifting curbs on spy agencies in security ‘revolution’

The German government has approved a draft law aimed at lifting many of the restraints on its spy agencies imposed during the postwar period as the country reels from two attacks in a month that have exposed serious security gaps.

The controversial changes, which must still pass parliament, largely comply with a wishlist pulled together by the foreign and domestic intelligence services, which have long complained Germany lags behind its allies and enemies.

“We are turning our intelligence services into genuine secret services,” the interior minister, Alexander Dobrindt, told Bild newspaper, which called it a security “revolution” and “historic”.

Canada’s lead trade negotiator with the U.S. Janice Charette has warned her American counterparts that if the White House imposes new 50 per cent tariffs on Aug. 19, it could put further trade talks at risk.

Industry sources tell CTV News there was no ultimatum given to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, but that he does understand the reality of the situation.

Charette’s comments were first reported by The Globe and Mail on Wednesday.

More than 135,000 hectares—1,350 square kilometres—of British Columbia Crown land has been identified or committed for transfer to First Nations through modern treaties and other agreements, according to provincial documents released this week. The area is roughly 12 times the size of Vancouver.

The province is also negotiating five modern treaties with the Te’mexw Treaty Association (TTA) that include approximately 1,565 hectares of Crown land in proposed treaty settlement areas.
