Alex Soros, son of financier George Soros, is assuming his father’s role as president of the Open Society Foundation (OSF). The OSF is criticized by four European countries for alleged interference in domestic politics. George Soros’s Super PAC, personal donations, “dark money” contributions, and the OSF have provided millions of dollars to the Democratic National Committee. In addition, Alex Soros and Huma Abedin (Chief of Staff for Hillary Clinton) met with Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly and former ambassador Frank McKenna (Chair of Brookfield Corp. and Deputy Chair of TD Bank Group) on July 13. Prime Minister Carney also hired Maia Johnson, who now serves as Senior Special Advisor for the US. Ms. Johnson is a longtime Democrat political operative, having worked on the presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris. This appears to be the first instance an American Democrat operative has been appointed to such a senior advisory position within the Canadian government.

House Republican Floats Making Alberta ’51st State’ if It Secedes: ‘Tremendous Oil Reserves There’

Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) suggested the United States should make Alberta its “51st state” if the oil-rich province breaks away from Canada, jumping on President Donald Trump’s repeated tease of the nation’s northern neighbor.

The Arctic: China Taking Over the Top of the World

This month, China’s Sea Legend Shipping launched the first regular container service through the Arctic, along what it calls the “Ice Silk Road.” The route, dubbed “China-Europe Arctic Express,” connects Ningbo, on China’s east coast, with England’s Felixstowe. The Chinese-run shipper plans eight voyages this summer season from this month to early October.

Sea Legend, which will use Russia’s Northern Sea Route, promises to cut in half the current 40-day sailing time.

Parliamentary record contradicts Liberal MP’s claim about forced labour comments … Beijing Stooge Silent

OTTAWA — Parliament’s official record shows Liberal MP Michael Ma was referring to Xinjiang — a region in China where reports of forced labour have been documented — in a committee meeting last month, contradicting the MP’s claims that he was misheard during a contentious exchange with a witness.

Ma was also given the opportunity to correct the official transcript and didn’t do so, the office of the Speaker of the House of Commons told the Star.

Carney is Beijing’s stooge.

Canada’s trade negotiator, Janice Charette, told a business audience this week that our trade agreement with the U.S. is “the envy of the world.”

The consensus in Ottawa seems to be that if Canada can emerge from the renegotiation process with much of the current trade deal intact, it will be a win.

But there is a minority view that looks at the Canada-U.S.-Mexico agreement through the lens of digital sovereignty and prosperity. From that perspective, Canada is not the most privileged of America’s trading partners: rather, it is the most captive.

McGuinty says ‘things have changed’ with U.S. but defence ties still strong

Defence Minister David McGuinty said Monday he agreed with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s message that Canada’s relationship with the U.S. has changed, but stressed that defence ties between the two countries remained strong.

The minister added the federal government’s strategy in responding to that changing relationship was evident in recruitment numbers for the Canadian Armed Forces, which McGuinty announced have hit a 30-year high.
