This month, China’s Sea Legend Shipping launched the first regular container service through the Arctic, along what it calls the “Ice Silk Road.” The route, dubbed “China-Europe Arctic Express,” connects Ningbo, on China’s east coast, with England’s Felixstowe. The Chinese-run shipper plans eight voyages this summer season from this month to early October.
Sea Legend, which will use Russia’s Northern Sea Route, promises to cut in half the current 40-day sailing time.
OTTAWA — A new report from a prominent Ottawa attorney has concluded that Luc Sabourin — the Canadian border intelligence whistleblower who says he was threatened at his Gatineau home by a Sinaloa cartel-linked gangster and later pressured out of his career after refusing an order to destroy roughly 1,000 foreign passports — faced “a pattern of workplace conflict and retaliation.” And his case remains unresolved, the report finds, for a reason that should alarm every Canadian: the independent oversight body Parliament created in 2024 to investigate exactly such allegations has still not been brought into force.

OTTAWA — Parliament’s official record shows Liberal MP Michael Ma was referring to Xinjiang — a region in China where reports of forced labour have been documented — in a committee meeting last month, contradicting the MP’s claims that he was misheard during a contentious exchange with a witness.
Ma was also given the opportunity to correct the official transcript and didn’t do so, the office of the Speaker of the House of Commons told the Star.
Carney is Beijing’s stooge.
Canada’s trade negotiator, Janice Charette, told a business audience this week that our trade agreement with the U.S. is “the envy of the world.”
The consensus in Ottawa seems to be that if Canada can emerge from the renegotiation process with much of the current trade deal intact, it will be a win.
But there is a minority view that looks at the Canada-U.S.-Mexico agreement through the lens of digital sovereignty and prosperity. From that perspective, Canada is not the most privileged of America’s trading partners: rather, it is the most captive.

Defence Minister David McGuinty said Monday he agreed with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s message that Canada’s relationship with the U.S. has changed, but stressed that defence ties between the two countries remained strong.
The minister added the federal government’s strategy in responding to that changing relationship was evident in recruitment numbers for the Canadian Armed Forces, which McGuinty announced have hit a 30-year high.

CALGARY — A new Global Foresight survey from the Atlantic Council suggests that while climate change is slipping as the world’s top perceived threat, tensions over water sources are intensifying.
For the first time in the past three years, a smaller number of the roughly 450 geopolitical experts polled ranked climate change as the single biggest threat to global prosperity, with just 17% saying it tops the list, with fewer than one in five now believing climate change will drive international cooperation in the coming decade — a sharp drop from two years ago.
