Once again, the Liberal government is attempting to restrict legal Internet content that they believe threatens “social stability” or is deemed “harmful” to Canada.
This week, the government introduced Bill C-34. The elements of the bill that grabbed the headlines were the ones to keep teenagers under the age of 16 off of social media platforms.
In a ruling that should send chills down the spine of anyone who still believes in the Enlightenment values of reason, evidence, and open debate, a Belgian court has convicted nationalist activist Dries Van Langenhove for the crime of stating uncomfortable facts.
On May 26, 2026, the Correctional Court of Leuven fined Van Langenhove €4,000 for a February 2024 lecture at KU Leuven University. The offense? Presenting data on mass migration, group differences in intelligence and achievement, crime statistics, and the failures of multiculturalism — in a manner the court deemed to create an “us versus them” atmosphere.
Getting to this point has taken weeks of careful negotiation, with Pakistani mediators balancing the competing, often contradictory, demands of Tehran and Washington.
In the end, they seem to have managed to get both sides to agree to the same deal, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the US blockade, according to Trump, and ending the fighting – including in Lebanon.

One of the benefits of advancing years is that some of the people with whom one has had disputes, even strenuous and at times vitriolic disputes, may develop a form of comradeship of vanished animosity. It isn’t necessary for either party to change the opinion or attitude that led to past abrasions, but time does heal most wounds and sometimes former adversaries see the whimsical or even amusing aspects of former disagreements and develop a respect for each other. One such person with whom I crossed swords many times but have lately come to like is the well-known and highly successful Montreal money manager Stephen Jarislowsky.
