A group of academics and researchers is working hard to normalize the idea of radical harm reduction for children as young as four or five.
In June, the group, which goes by the name Anchoring Change, published a guide on drug education for Canadian youth, beginning in kindergarten, that suspiciously rebrands “harm reduction” as “harm minimization.” The group’s “guiding principles,” listed in the report, included trauma-informed practices; equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization; culturally responsive practices; student voice and harm minimization.

LONDON — More than 4,000 delegates from dozens of countries gathered in London at the end of June for the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) conference, a fast-growing international forum focused on family, faith, freedom, energy, democratic renewal and what its organizers describe as the moral decline of western civilization.
ARC is not yet well known in Canada. It was founded in 2023 and is closely associated with Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, Baroness Philippa Stroud of the United Kingdom and former Australian deputy prime minister John Anderson. Its own material describes the movement as a call to “builders” and to those who choose “gratitude over cynicism.” Its critics describe it as a right-of-centre gathering that packages culture-war politics in the language of renewal.

Conservative MP Jamil Jivani is accusing the federal government of tying Canada Day funding to multiculturalism branding, arguing communities should be free to celebrate the country without being required to promote a particular government policy.

Cuba on Monday suffered its third nationwide power outage since the start of the year, the state electricity company said.
The impoverished island was already struggling to keep the lights on before the US president, Donald Trump, imposed an oil blockade in January, which has depleted the already dwindling supply of fuel for Cuba’s power plants.
“There has been a total disconnection from the national electricity generation system,” the UNE power utility wrote on X, adding that it was investigating the causes.

The US has launched a series of “powerful” strikes on Iran in response to attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command (Centcom) said on Tuesday it had begun the assault, “to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent individuals in an international waterway”.
Iran’s deputy foreign minister called the US attacks a violation of the US-Iran memorandum signed last month, and warned that Tehran would “take decisive measures”.
