Poll: Patriotism in the US, Europe and Canada, charted
What does it mean to be patriotic? It depends on a country’s politics.
Pride in one’s country is itself relatively common, according to new results from an international edition of The POLITICO Poll: Majorities of adults across the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, France and Germany all say they are proud of their country.
The Hard-Line Activists Ramping Up for the War With AI
SAN FRANCISCO—In the months after Sam Kirchner disappeared in November, Matthew Hall searched for him on city streets where homeless live and in wooded hills where campers hide away.
Hall worried for the safety of Kirchner, an intense 27-year-old activist who had been leading sit-ins at OpenAI to protest the dangers of artificial intelligence. He feared for OpenAI’s employees, too.
The last time Hall saw him was at the spartan Oakland cottage that served as headquarters for their hard-line group, Stop AI. Kirchner, an electrical engineering technician by training, was angry, insistent that more had to be done.
“I’m done with this,” he said, according to Hall. “The ship may have sailed on nonviolence.”
Shopify president fears for future of Jews in Canada as families contemplate what was ‘unthinkable five years ago’
The president of Canada’s biggest tech company says antisemitism has been “normalized under the thinnest veil of advocacy,” and many members of the Jewish community are thinking about their future in Canada.
Harley Finkelstein was confronted, again, by an aggressive protester at Montreal’s Startupfest on Wednesday, the third time in two years he has been aggressively challenged in public for his support of Israel.
Mass immigration will make it very difficult to reverse this situation.
After Khamenei, Nothing Has Changed – But It Might
The West has long nurtured the conviction that a regime dies with its ruler. On February 28, American and Israeli aircraft, in a joint operation prepared over months, killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei together with the chief of staff of the armed forces, the commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the defense minister and Khamenei’s closest adviser, thereby erasing the command structure of the Islamic Republic in a single morning. US President Donald Trump promised to “annihilate their navy” and level Iran’s missile industry.
Across the West, and among Iranians whose January uprising had been drowned in blood only weeks earlier, an immense hope took hold. The theocracy, at last, seemed gone.
Mark Carney’s visit to Saudi Arabia revealed a narrowed vision of Canada’s place in the world
“O Canada” was played in Saudi Arabia this week for the first time in 26 years. That quarter-century silence tells the real story behind Mark Carney’s visit to Jeddah.
The last Canadian prime minister to visit Saudi Arabia was Jean Chrétien, in 2000, during a 12-day Middle East tour driven by a very different ambition: to reinforce Canada’s role as a credible participant in the Oslo peace process and to lead the international working group on Palestinian refugees. Canada then aspired to play a distinctive diplomatic role in the region and strengthen multilateralism.

Soboroff Hypes LGBTQ Celebs Calling Flag ‘A Violent Symbol Of Prejeduice’
MS NOW’s Connect host Jacob Soboroff rewound the clock on Saturday to promote a short documentary called Reclaim the Flag that was released a year ago that featured several LGBTQ celebrities—some of whom were definitely more famous than others—talking about their views of the flag. Soboroff sat down with producer Alexis Bittar to discuss the film and play several soundbites that included claims to the flag as having “blood on it” and being a “violent symbol of prejudice and hate” and beliefs that people who fly the flag would kill them if they had the opportunity.
“Meteor of the faith” got Stabby
A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been charged after one person was seriously injured in an assault at Woodbine Beach on Wednesday night.
Toronto police said they initially were called to the beach at 10:45 p.m. for a stabbing.
In a news release on Saturday, police announced they had arrested the suspects, one of whom was identified as Shahabuddin Kabiry. The 17-year-old boy cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Shahabuddin is an old family name in the Guelph area.

Pretty in Pinko: The Brat Pack And the Anti-Communist Film Festival
I’m officially inviting the Brat Pack to the Anti-Communist Film Festival. The Brat Pack were a group of actors who were young in the 1980s and the subject of a famous magazine profile by David Blum. Rob Lowe, Sean Penn, Emilio Estevez, and Andrew McCarthy, as well as female stars like Molly Ringwald, Demi Moore and Ali Sheedy, were the hot young actors in Hollywood in the Reagan Era.
Brad Bradford has already raised $1.8 million for his Toronto mayoral campaign. Here’s what that might mean for his chances of beating Olivia Chow
Brad Bradford says he’s raised $1.8 million for his Toronto mayoral campaign, a display of financial firepower that would further solidify his evolution from an also-ran three years ago into a serious challenger for the city’s top job.
Bradford’s team announced the fundraising haul this week, on the same day the councillor for Beaches-East York held his first campaign rally at an Etobicoke community centre.
Drunk Chow will still benefit as the incumbent of city that votes stupid left.
Praise Be to Allah, Trump Finds a New Way to Enrage Leftists and Jihad Enablers
If you go open up a window for a minute (assuming you’re running the air conditioner, fellow American), you’ll hear the leftists yet again howling with rage. As he has done so many times in the past, President Donald Trump has driven them up the wall, this time by mocking their favorite religion.
Ontario Consumer Insolvencies Hit Highest Level Since The Financial Crisis
Canadian consumer insolvencies are rising fast, but nowhere are they rising quite like in Ontario. Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada (OSB) filings rose in May. They’re rising so fast that Ontario just saw its second-highest number of May filings on record, only behind the 2009 Global Financial Crisis.
Nolte: Uwe Boll Says ‘Citizen Vigilante’ Is a ‘Revolt‘ Against Studios Like Netflix Depicting All Migrants as Perfect
Citizen Vigilante director Uwe Boll defended his movie primarily as a response to the ongoing cover-up, both by politicians and the entertainment industry, about the very real horrors inflicted on society by migrant criminals.
“If you watch any German movie, all the migrants are perfectly integrated, intelligent, perfectly German-speaking people, and that’s just wrong,” he said. “That’s not the case.”
Carney talks about Canada’s ‘energy sovereignty.’ But what does that really mean?
Soon after Donald Trump took office for a second time, with punishing tariffs and menacing talk of Canada as “the 51st state,” this country’s leaders began to invoke the idea of “energy sovereignty.”
It was a response to the fact that the biggest consumer of Canadian oil — the U.S. — was becoming increasingly hostile and erratic, an economic quandary that could only be managed by seeking new customers.
Carney? He still believes we should all be driving electric cars.
EU defense remains heavily reliant on the United States
EU militaries continue to rely heavily on US weaponry. This was again evident at July’s NATO summit in Turkey’s capital, Ankara, which also included the high-level Defense Industry Forum, at which US companies were able to secure lucrative contracts.
It was also decided that European governments would play a bigger role in producing and maintaining the missiles that are so crucial to the continent’s defense. Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly produce ATACMS missiles in Germany. This is one step towards increasing stockpiles without upsetting the United States, but in the long term Europe is aiming for greater independence.
