It’s another smoky summer in southern Ontario, and people breathing poor air in and around Toronto are once again asking what governments can do about wildfire smoke.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has defended the province’s wildfire budget and has asked Ottawa for extra help. Some Republican lawmakers in the U.S. have also demanded Canada do more to stop smoke from drifting across the border.

Canada and the US agreed to split the profit from a new bridge between Ontario and Michigan for 15 years — with no provision to cover Canada’s debt-service costs on the project, according to a copy of the pact seen by Bloomberg News.
The agreement in principle covering the Gordie Howe International Bridge appears to contradict earlier public remarks from Prime Minister Mark Carney. And it shows what Canada conceded to get the President Donald Trump’s administration to stop blocking the 1.5-mile bridge over the Detroit River.

Seattle residents may no longer have to watch people engaging in lewd sexual conduct in Denny Blaine Park for All after a judge ruled that it constituted a public nuisance that substantially interfered with neighboring homeowners’ use of their properties.

A judge has declared a surprise mistrial in the sexual assault case of Frank Stronach, voiding a guilty finding because the complainant’s lawyer made a clumsy attempt to extract money through Stronach’s lawyer, but ended up sharing information that contradicted the woman’s testimony under oath.
The shocking decision by Judge Anne Molloy overturns her recent finding that Stronach was guilty of sexually assaulting this woman, known as A.S., who once worked as a waitress in a bar Stronach owned.

Defence Minister David McGuinty is expected to announce next week in the United Kingdom that Canada will play a role in an international program to build the next generation of stealth fighter jets, CBC News has learned.
