A Baltimore opera group’s white executive director claims she was fired after she was pictured wearing cornrows at Burning Man.
Public relations specialist Kelly Carnes told the Baltimore Banner on Thursday that she had been sacked from her new job at the Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS) after her hairstyle supposedly caused concerns over cultural appropriation.
Carnes said she was sporting the ‘protective style’ hair, which is usually associated with black culture, on her annual trip to the Nevada festival.
