Institutions built to prevent atrocities eventually face the question of what they actually protect. For the United Nations, voting patterns, internal investigations and its own decisions this year no longer support the fiction of neutrality. An UNRWA school in Gaza sat above a Hamas tunnel shaft and three anti-tank positions, and its own principal was on the payroll of both institutions at once — a fact that American investigators, not the UN, brought to light.
The furious Palestinian reaction to the recent declaration by the so-called “Board of Peace” — that the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) “has no place in the new Gaza Strip” — has once again exposed a fundamental truth that many in the international community continue to ignore: for the Palestinians, UNRWA is not just a humanitarian agency. It is a political institution that keeps alive the dream of the so-called “right of return” — a demand that, by overwhelming Israel’s population of roughly 10 million with millions of supposed “refugees” — would effectively bring about the end of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
his story is bigger than Israel. This story is not about Palestinians versus Israelis. This story is not about what drives people to the streets, even when many of them could not find Gaza on a map.
This story is about the fading trust in UN institutions and, even more troubling, in humanitarian work itself.
After October 7, HonestReporting, an Israeli media watchdog, alerted the public to a series of uncomfortable facts. What they discovered was that several Gaza-based ‘freelance photojournalists’ appeared to be operating in close proximity to prominent Hamas leaders and attackers during the assault, or possessed material that raised serious questions about how it had been obtained. The photographers in question were working for or associated with media outlets such as AP, Reuters, NYT, and CNN.

The Trump administration is considering designating the UN’s Palestinian relief agency, UNRWA, as a terrorist organization, a move that would expose it to U.S. sanctions amid mounting allegations of deep ties to Hamas.
Washington was long the largest donor to UNRWA but halted funding in January 2024 after Israel accused several UNRWA staff of involvement in the deadly October 7th, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack that triggered the conflict in Gaza.
The chief oversight body responsible for monitoring American foreign assistance has launched an independent investigation into United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) staffers’ ties to Hamas, building a blacklist that will prevent them from migrating to other U.N. agencies that may be involved in the Gaza reconstruction project, nonpublic briefing materials reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon show.

The IDF discovered documents in Gaza that show the overlap between UNRWA and Hamas. UNRWA staff took part in the October 7, 2023 atrocities, and several thousand UNRWA employees turn out to be Hamas operatives. UNRWA buildings have been used by Hamas to store weapons, and Hamas has even built one of its data centers under UNRWA’s Gaza headquarters. Now, on the basis of this evidence, American families of terror victims of Hamas are suing UNRWA for its support of the terror group.

Palestinian children enrolled in schools operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East are reportedly being taught to “fight back and resist” so that “Palestine will be liberated and our lands will return to us by the good grace of Allah.”
That’s a direct quote from a 14-year-old student studying at an Unrwa school at Ein Arik, who is featured in a harrowing interview released by a United Nations monitoring group, UN Watch, on Wednesday. The video is just one of the documents that UN Watch — a strident critic of the agency — has pulled out from its “massive new trove of evidence” that put on display Unrwa’s “complicity with terror.”

Since the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel, in which terrorists from Gaza murdered 1,200 Israelis, there has been increased evidence of the role the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) plays in supporting and funding Palestinian terrorism.
New evidence of the cooperation between UNRWA and the Islamist terror organization Hamas came to light after the IDF discovered a tunnel shaft near a UNRWA school during its operations in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military announced on Saturday.
The tunnel shaft, near the school, led to an underground shelter that served as a valuable asset for Hamas’s military intelligence wing, according to the IDF. The route connected to the tunnel also led to a path beneath UNRWA’s central headquarters in the Gaza Strip.

OSLO, Norway — A Norwegian politician said Thursday that he has nominated the UN Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA, embroiled in a controversy over the alleged involvement of employees in the Hamas-led October 7 terror onslaught against Israel, for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Labour MP Asmund Aukrust told the Dagbladet newspaper he had nominated the UN Relief and Works Agency “for its long-term work to provide vital support to Palestine and the region in general.”

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) was originally a small agency mandated to provide basic humanitarian relief for Palestinians, including a vote for renewal every three years. Seventy-three years and four generations later, and with more than 30,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $1 billion, it has astonishingly become one of the largest UN agencies.
Sept. 11 came and went this week as little more than an afterthought. Addressing concerns about terrorism is no longer in vogue, especially in this country. Yet the date when 2,977 innocent women and men were killed in New York’s Twin Towers, the Pentagon and on four airliners serves as a yearly reminder of the devastating consequences of terrorism.
