The Department of Canadian Heritage is funding researchers to build a directory of Canadian news outlets considered trustworthy and reliable, according to Access To Information records.
The government-approved Local News Directory is intended to help policymakers identify communities needing intervention while directing Canadians toward news sources they can trust, departmental documents show.

Canada needs to roughly double the rate that new homes are being built in order to restore housing affordability to pre-pandemic levels over the next decade, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
The CMHC released its fall 2026 housing supply report on Thursday, which said Canada needs to build hundreds of thousands more homes annually in order to narrow a significant long-term supply gap, with some major markets struggling more than others.
As the Carney government pursues deeper relations with Beijing, the Chinese government reports it held a “candid” exchange on military issues with Canadian officials earlier this month.
The meeting — which Beijing said took place in Canada on Sept. 4 — followed years of diplomatic strain and is raising concerns among Conservatives, who reject the idea of military co-operation with China.
China’s defence ministry revealed the two countries held their fifth defence co-ordination dialogue last week. Canada’s Defence Department confirmed that report days later.

Zelenskyy arrived on the heels on attending King Harald V’s funeral in Norway, where his plane had been delayed by a drone incursion.
