Canada plans to assist Cuba as Washington squeezes the island

…US President Donald Trump’s administration has moved to block all oil from reaching Cuba, including that from ally Venezuela, pushing up prices for food and transportation and prompting severe fuel shortages and hours of blackouts.

“We are preparing a plan to assist. We are not prepared at this point to provide any further details of an announcement,” Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said on Monday, without giving details on what such an assistance will include.

A self-proclaimed ‘scholar of the far right’ was blasted on social media after she ‘fled’ the United States to Canada.

Nope Brigade is an academic researcher who studies conservative and right-wing ideologies, and recently ‘fled’ from the current Trump administration to Vancouver – one of the world’s priciest cities.

Brigade posted a social media video begging for help after she and her family moved from Los Angeles, only to be hit with an even worse affordability crisis.

Alabama and Team USA defeat Canada

This was not a good weekend for those in Canada who suffer TDS. They made Sunday’s hockey match with Team USA all about politics and Canadian pride. The trash-talking turned to trash-eating. But I do congratulate Canada on its two silver medals in hockey—female and male. Maybe if we make it a best of the 57 genders tournament, Canada will beat Team USA.

Remember, not all Canadians suffer TDS. Sane Canadians realize it’s just a game they usually win. The last time the USA men’s team won was The Miracle on Ice. In all, Canadian men have 9 men’s team gold medals. The USA has 3.

Conservatives calling for probe into asylum seekers’ abusive access to health care

OTTAWA — The Conservatives plan to put a motion before the House of Commons on Tuesday aimed at reviewing how health benefits are provided to asylum seekers and restricting who has access to those services.

The planned text of the motion, which has been shared with The Canadian Press, says the cost of the Interim Federal Health Program has more than quadrupled since the 2020 fiscal year, growing from $211 million to $896 million in 2024-25.

That data was pulled from a report by the parliamentary budget officer published earlier this month.

They should only be offered MAiD like Canadian citizens, that’ll send them packing back home.

Three men and one youth have been arrested following a two-year investigation into human trafficking across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

In a release on Monday, Peel police said in January 2024, investigators with their Vice and Human Trafficking Unit began looking into allegations that several young female victims, ages 11 to 14 years old, were being trafficked and exploited in the sex-trade throughout the GTA.

In light of President Trump’s recent threats to Greenland, there was considerable interest at last week’s Munich Security Conference in the last great “ungoverned”, “interstitial” region of the world: the vast Arctic. Alas, the emerging manner of “governing” the Arctic is not only militaristic, but exceedingly incoherent in its militarism.

The ostensible response to America threatening to annex Greenland is to increase Nato’s presence and interest in Greenland. And the ostensible response to Russian Arctic ambitions or actions is, again, to increase Nato presence and interest in the Arctic. In short, more Nato presence appears to be a fix-all to Arctic threats emanating from allies and adversaries alike.

In February 2025, Canada listed seven transnational organized crime groups, primarily Mexican cartels, as terrorist entities, noting “their drug trafficking activities are a risk to national security and must be stopped.” In a follow-up media interview, senior RCMP officers confirmed that all listed groups were active in Canada and “very much involved in crime impacting Canada.”

The move sparked significant debate. Critics argued that terrorism is ideologically motivated, seeking political or social change through fear, whereas organized crime is driven by profit and pragmatism. While cartels use terrorist-like violence, it is typically to protect markets, eliminate rivals, or deter state interference — not to alter political structures. In this view, cartels and terrorists occupy different ends of the threat spectrum.

Mohammed the TTC employee accused of sexually assaulting female coworker ‘numerous times’

A TTC employee has been suspended and faces criminal charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a female coworker “numerous times.”

While Toronto Police have not identified the accused man’s employer, the Toronto Transit Commission has confirmed authorities were contacted after a female employee complained about serious workplace “misconduct” allegedly by a male co-worker.

University admissions are but one milestone in a larger social script – one that reflects our assumptions about what it means to “make it” in contemporary society. It’s a familiar script, whose story beats are the stuff of a thousand bank advertisements: convocations, starter jobs and starter homes, painting a baby’s room, a luxury car, a long stretch of golden years, laughter on a beach.

I doubt many will sign up and Ukraine is not exactly a role model.

Cuba running on fumes as fellow travelers in Canada consider sending relief to repressive communist regime

The government of Canada says it is still thinking about whether to send humanitarian aid to Cuba, as the island confronts a looming disaster under an American oil embargo that is, in practice, a full blockade.

“Canada is monitoring the situation carefully and is concerned about the increasing risk of a humanitarian crisis on the island,” said Global Affairs Canada’s Charlotte MacLeod in a written statement shared with CBC News.

An Ontario court has ruled that the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) must hold a new hearing, with a different adjudicator, in the case of a Black trans man who complained of discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression at a walk-in medical clinic.

Jordan Renae Thorne originally filed an HRTO complaint alleging he was “repeatedly misgendered” by a physician and an office assistant at a walk-in clinic in December 2017.
