Canada’s ambassador says Trudeau told Trump the Canadian border can’t be compared to Mexico’s

TORONTO (AP) — Canada’s ambassador to the United States said Sunday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was successful in getting President-elect Donald Trump and key Cabinet nominees to understand that lumping Canada in with Mexico over the flow of drugs and migrants into the U.S. is unfair.

Kirsten Hillman, Canada’s ambassador in Washington, told The Associated Press in an interview that Trudeau’s dinner with Trump on Friday was a very important step in trying to get Trump to back away from threatened tariffs on all products from the major American trading partner.

Metropolitan police were unprepared for the organized assault. So was Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who seems to have had no inkling of the possible security risks that a NATO summit in his country might present. No, the Canadian leader wasn’t out to lunch. He was at a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto.

Terror Suspect Caught at the Northern Border Indicative of a Bigger Problem

We often focus so much on the border between the United States and Mexico that it overshadows the one we share with our Canadian neighbors. The recent arrest of a suspected terrorist is a sobering reminder that it can be just as big of a national security threat. According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), 41-year-old Mohammed Hasan Abdellatif Albana was captured in Lynden, Washington. He was identified as a “known or suspected terrorist,” according to Fox News. While it’s not clear when he was apprehended, ICE deported him back to Jordan on November 15.

Crime rates in Canada and the U.S. are not what you might think

The numbers often aren’t strictly comparable, given differences in definitions, but rates of growth are, and they aren’t favourable

Here in Canada, with our mantra of “peace, order and good government,” we view our country as a peaceable kingdom marked by less crime than our American cousins, with their “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Much of our self-assurance on this point is because, as noted in a new study of mine published by the Fraser Institute, homicides rates have always been higher in the United States than in Canada.

U.S. Postal Service suspends accepting mail bound for Canada due to strike

TORONTO – The U.S. Postal Service has temporarily suspended accepting mail headed to Canada due to the strike by Canada Post workers.

It is asking customers to refrain from mailing items addressed to Canada, until further notice.

I realize small business hurts when CP goes on strike but I am also old enough to remember when a postal strike was a Big Deal in Canada.

Today? Not water cooler talk.

Agents of the Indian government allegedly attempted to derail Patrick Brown’s campaign for the leadership of the Conservative Party in 2022, according to sources who spoke to Radio-Canada.

Brown’s national campaign co-chair, Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner, allegedly was pressured to withdraw her support for Brown in the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada leadership race, confidential sources told Radio-Canada.

Rempel Garner categorically denies the allegation.

As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. president-elect Donald Trump hail their surprise meeting in Florida on Friday night as “productive,” federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says Trudeau came home empty-handed for Canada.

Poilievre made the comment Sunday in response to a reporter’s question about the Trudeau-Trump three-hour dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla. The pair talked cross-border issues including Trump’s threat to slap massive 25-per-cent tariffs on Canadian products being imported into the U.S.

According to the Toronto Sun, last year, Montreal has endured the most antisemitic hate crimes of any city in North America.

Indeed, since the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre in Israel, antisemitic incidents in Canada have increased by an astounding 670%.

Canadian Jews — a miniscule 1.4% of the nation’s population — were the victims of 70% of religious-based hate crimes during roughly the same period.

New survey finds young Canadians most supportive of China’s Communist Party government, least concerned about foreign interference

Young Canadians are the most supportive of China’s Communist government and are the most concerned that reports of Chinese government interference could lead to anti-Asian racism, according to a new report.

The survey, conducted by the not-for-profit Digital Public Square and the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy’s China Governance Lab, also revealed that young Canadians are the least satisfied with Canadian democracy and are less confident in their ability to express controversial political views freely compared to other age groups.

Trudeau and police send wrong signals to Jews and resident Hamas supporters

It was another distressing week for Canadian Jews and those alarmed by the rise of antisemitism in our common life and on our streets.

There was the violent riot in Montreal, where an amalgam of anti-NATO protesters and university student activists somehow managed to include Israel, Zionists, and Jews as targets of their graffiti, vandalism, and car-burning. Israel is not part of NATO and Zionism has nothing to do with tuition policy in Quebec.

They know the message they’re sending.

If you’re out walking after a bad storm, you’re liable to come across a few trees with limbs that are just hanging on.

One scintilla of added pressure, one strong gust, and the branch breaks.
