Twenty-five years after 9/11, the United States faces a disquieting paradox. On the one hand, the country has largely been spared another major terrorist attack. Only one lethal incident directed by a foreign terrorist organization has succeeded on American soil since 9/11: the 2019 shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola by a Saudi al-Qaeda operative, which killed three sailors and wounded eight others. This record is a towering achievement. In the dark and fearful days after 9/11 and during the early years of the war on terror, such an outcome was a matter of hope rather than certainty. The horrific attacks in Madrid in 2004, London in 2005, Mumbai in 2008, Paris in 2015, Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday in 2019, and Moscow in 2024 underscore the importance of the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations and the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 in keeping the United States safe from another catastrophic attack.

Is Pierre Poilievre the reason the Conservatives are stuck?
In recent weeks, a familiar explanation has taken hold in political commentary: the Conservative Party would be doing better if someone other than Pierre Poilievre were leading it. After this week’s difficult byelections that assertion has become expectedly louder from columnists, commentators, and from the chattering class.
It is absolutely an intuitive theory. It’s also one that can be tested, and Abacus Data’s most recent national survey of 2,022 Canadians, conducted August 21 to 26, offers a way to do that.
What Is Iran’s Boiling Point? We May Be Very Close to Finding Out.
I can’t say I remember all of my high school chemistry and physics education, but I do remember the concept about water boiling. Under normal atmospheric pressure, 212 degrees is the magic temperature for it to begin bubbling off into steam in earnest. But if you can pressurize the container holding the water, doubling its surroundings in atmospheric pressure, you get an additional 36 degrees of heat before boiling begins. That’s why cars and trucks for a very long time have had pressurized cooling systems for engines.
Apology sanction struck for former Alberta school trustee who compared Pride to Nazism
RED DEER — Alberta’s highest court has struck the decision by a Catholic school division requiring a trustee to publicly apologize for a social media post that compared children waving Pride flags to Nazi Germany.
The issue erupted in the summer of 2023 and led Monique LaGrange to resign from the board of Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools after fellow board members voted to disqualify her.
The social media post, which LaGrange later deleted, featured an image of children holding Pride flags in a classroom underneath an image of children waving swastikas, with the caption “brainwashing is brainwashing.”
She was in the right.
PC brother of siblings who battled officers at Manchester Airport sacked for comparing black female colleague’s braided hair to a ‘mop’
The policeman brother of the siblings caught on camera battling officers at Manchester Airport has been sacked for a ‘racist’ comment comparing a black female colleague’s braided hair to a mop.
PC Mohammed Abid, 29, is one of six serving officers based at Bury police station who were today dismissed for mocking the policewoman’s appearance or how she spoke.
A further two former constables would have faced dismissal had they not quit, a misconduct panel ruled, while a sergeant was given a written warning.
Stellar muslim family.
CHARLEBOIS: Ottawa cuts taxes at the pump, then adds them to the grocery bill
Ottawa’s decision to extend the federal fuel-tax suspension just days before a new round of counter-tariffs takes effect suggests that the government has finally done its homework on affordability.
The federal excise tax will remain suspended until January 31, 2027, saving motorists 10 cents per litre on gasoline and four cents per litre on diesel. It will return at half its normal rate for February and March before being fully restored in April. For the food sector, the diesel measure is particularly important. Almost everything Canadians eat spends time on a truck, while farmers, processors, wholesalers and retailers all depend heavily on energy.
New Poll Devastates Democrats Ahead of Midterms
I recently wrote about pollster Patrick Ruffini’s deep dive into more than 3,000 polls conducted over the past four election cycles, which found that pollsters overestimated Democrats by an average of 3.7 points, with that error ballooning to roughly 5.9 percentage points during the summer months before correcting in the fall.
The correction may have arrived, and it is not pretty for Democrats.
Police investigating murder of employee of ex-MP Raj Grewal, who’s accused of fraud
Litigation over millions in alleged financial misconduct by former MP and lawyer Raj Grewal and his colleagues has brought to the fore a more chilling backdrop to the saga — a shocking murder of a Grewal associate and shootings at his home.
The recent cross-examination of a witness in one of a slew of lawsuits against the ex-Liberal member, the law firm he founded and other lawyers raised the fact that a Grewal employee, Jaskarn Dhaliwal, was shot dead eight months ago as he drove out of a Brampton, Ont., mall.
Nolte — JD Vance’s Mom Blasts vile Islamist Abdul El-Sayed Over Racial Smears About Her Family: ‘That Man‘s an Idiot‘
Egyptian-American Muslim and Democrat Michigan Senate nominee Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed (aka Abdul El-Sayed) has been running around for months smearing Vice President JD Vance’s family as racist. Earlier this week, Vance himself struck back. On Wednesday, Vance’s mother, Beverly Vance Adkins, shared her own blunt thoughts.
“I think that man’s an idiot,” she said during an interview on OutKick’s Tomi Lahren is Fearless.

OTTAWA — U.S. President Donald Trump warned Prime Minister Mark Carney Thursday that Canada’s economy would collapse and threatened him with political consequences “worse than anything that has ever happened to a Canadian politician.”

EU’s ability to defend against invasion remains in doubt, finds official report
The EU’s ability to respond to a foreign invasion by 2030 remains in doubt due to a continuing reliance on the US and fragmented national defence systems, according to a report from its official auditor.
The European court of auditors (ECA) said the EU was much better prepared than before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine of 2022, but achieving its goal of defence readiness by the end of the decade would be difficult.
“Achieving defence preparedness in the EU by 2030 remains challenging,” said Marek Opioła, an ECA member who led the review of the EU’s defence policy published on Thursday. “There are still major difficulties such as fragmented national systems or industrial bottlenecks. We also still rely on the United States.”
Terry Glavin: Carney recruiting Dominic Barton will please Xi Jinping
There has been no greater gift to the Liberal Party’s powerful pro-Beijing comprador caste than U.S. President Donald Trump’s exasperating bellicosity and exhausting trade-relations vandalism. Even after nearly a decade of scandals involving China’s Uyghur slave camps, its “hostage diplomacy,” mass espionage, intellectual property theft, forced corporate co-ventures and clandestine election-interference operations, by this summer the Pew Research Centre found that Canadians had come to view China more favorably than the United States.
You could say the American president can be thanked for that.
Trump Admin Moves to Strip DEI-Drenched Schools of Tax Exemptions
Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly warned Academia to drop its discriminatory approach to hiring and admissions. The Supreme Court warned Academia to do the same. Most business entities smelled the coffee and began distancing themselves from DEI practices. Rather than recognize that the time for discrimination on the basis of ethnicity had passed, universities dug in their heels, perhaps none more so than Harvard.
The disappearance of Pierre Poilievre
Americans have been trying their hand at Canadian political punditry as relations between our two countries continue to spiral downward, showing frankly no real insights.
But one politician-turned-pundit, U.S. Vice-President JD Vance, may have been on to something when he recently called Pierre Poilievre a “non-entity.”
In remarks made available to Canadian Press last month, Vance referred to the Conservative leader as “this guy Pierre Poilievre or something,” and told the fundraiser audience that he was a non-entity when it came to trade negotiations.
Lutnick says Canadian Liberals blew up trade deal ‘to get themselves elected’
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick accused Canada’s Liberal government of deliberately derailing the trade agreement with the Trump administration for political gain.
“This is the Canadian Liberal Party using their economy to get themselves elected, even if they’re selling their own citizens down the river. It’s sad and disappointing,” Lutnick told Bloomberg, speaking of the failed negotiations.
Lutnick: "If you are gonna mess with the United States of America and its economy and you're right adjacent to our northern border, it was really disrespectful. When you treat Donald Trump disrespectfully, he knows it. And that's what happened. It's just sad the way Canada has… pic.twitter.com/7j7wnP5jFu

I believe Carney sabotaged the talks to hasten our demise. He's not on our team and he's not on Trumps but both are fighting for the spoils of Canada's remains. Unseen hands are at work. I will take Trump over Xi, Ursula and the WEF any day.
