Stephen Harper warns Albertans against supporting separatists
OTTAWA — Stephen Harper is warning Albertans against setting the province on a path toward secession by using their votes in an upcoming referendum in an attempt to send Ottawa a message.
In an essay published Friday in the Calgary Herald, Harper also expressed optimism over how he sees the Liberals under Prime Minister Mark Carney turning a page from the “anti-Alberta” policies of Carney’s predecessor, Justin Trudeau.
“As a former prime minister of Canada, staying silent on the upcoming referendum on Alberta secession is not an option. But I wish it were,” he wrote.
Dual UK-Iranian National Released on Bail After Alleged Plot on RAF Base
LONDON (AP) – A dual U.K.-Iranian national arrested on suspicion of plotting a terror attack following a security incident at a U.S.-run military air base in England has been released on bail, authorities said Saturday.
The 25-year-old man was arrested Thursday in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts close to the RAF Fairford air base, which has been used by American bombers to strike Iran. He was the sixth person taken into custody and then released on bail as detectives investigate the incident.
They haven’t found a way to blame Trump yet.
Carney Puts Oil Pipeline at Center of Bid to Keep Alberta in Canada
TORONTO—Weeks before a referendum on Alberta’s future in Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday sought to strengthen ties with the province by designating a proposed oil pipeline to the Pacific coast a “project of national interest,” a move that speeds its regulatory approval process.
Separatists in the oil-rich prairie province have pointed to longstanding disaffection with the federal government’s energy and climate policies, which they say have constrained the oil-and-gas industry, as a key reason they champion independence. The province will vote on Oct. 19 on whether to stay in Canada or to start the process of holding a second, binding referendum on leaving.

4 Canadians aboard missing Ontario-based air ambulance flying from Bermuda
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for an Ontario-based air ambulance that went missing Saturday with six people on board, including four Canadians.
The Gulfstream G100 jet, identified as C-GRJP, was flying from Bermuda and was scheduled to land at Boston Logan International Airport around 1:30 a.m., according to the tracking website Flightradar24.
The jet is registered to Latitude Air Ambulance, an Ontario-based company that operates out of John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, according to the Canadian Civil Aircraft Register.

Senators have doubled overseas trips with costs to taxpayers jumping 88%, according to CTF
Canadian senators are costing taxpayers extensive amounts for overseas trips even though Members of Parliament are regularly representing Canada on the same trips, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
A national overview of province-by-province senator overseas travel, released by the CTF this week, states that international trips undertaken between Jan. 16, 2023 and March 17, 2026 by 65 senators cost Canadian taxpayers $1,850,420. Overall, says the CTF, senators have nearly doubled their international travel spending in the last two years, with the costs climbing 88 per cent from $391,095 in 2023 to $736,165 in 2025, according to its analysis of parliamentary financial disclosures.

Corporate Giving Giant Silently Cuts Off SPLC While Retaining Filter Based on Its ‘Hate’ List
The corporate charitable giving platform Benevity has reportedly made the Southern Poverty Law Center ineligible for charitable giving, even while still offering a tool by which its corporate clients can screen out organizations the SPLC brands “hate groups.”
Critics say the SPLC, which gained its reputation by suing the Ku Klux Klan into bankruptcy, now smears mainstream conservatives by putting them on a “hate map” with Klan chapters. Separately, the SPLC faces federal fraud and conspiracy charges for allegedly funding Klan activities through its paid-informant program. Donor-advised fund managers such as Fidelity Charitable paused the SPLC’s ability to receive funds following the indictment earlier this year.

Political activist Tommy Robinson has appeared at a crown court accused of harassing two journalists by allegedly telling one “I’m coming to get you” and the other “I’ll be knocking at your door”.
