If an office pool were held today, the question being to identify one thing Joe Biden has done since fetching up at 1600 that AOC would not have done had she been the winner November 3 last, that pool would not produce a winner. Afghans Arrested in Sweden Suspected of Plotting Terror Attack

The Swedish security police Säpo arrested two Afghans, a man and a woman, during the Easter holiday on suspicion of plotting a terror attack in Stockholm county.

Säpo announced the arrests earlier this week, saying that they took place on the morning of Good Friday following a police operation in the Stockholm region.

Police Gear up for “White Lives Matter” Rally in OC

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) — Huntington Beach police are planning a ramped- up presence Sunday in the event of a potential square-off between attendees at a planned “White Lives Matter” rally and counter-protesters.

Police would not provide specifics of their plan to monitor the rally, other than to say “increased staffing of public safety personnel” is expected.

“There will be a large contingent of police officers working in the area, along with various assets including a regional mounted unit and aviation assets,” Huntington Beach police Lt. Brian Smith said. “Additional resources from allied agencies will also be on standby should the need arise, which is common practice for large planned events, including sporting events, community events, rallies and protests.”

Canada’s COVID-19 case rate tops U.S. as country continues to lag in vaccinations

For the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak began, Canada’s rate of new cases of the novel coronavirus has eclipsed that of the United States.

An analysis of numbers collected by Our World In Data now shows that on Friday, Canada reported 205.73 new cases per million on a rolling seven-day average, relative to the country’s population, while the United States sat at 205.12.

Police visited the L.A. home of a podcaster this week a day after after he posted a tweet criticizing AOC and her comments on Israel and Palestine.

Ryan Wentz runs the online show Soapbox and tweets under the handle Queelamode.

On April 7, he posted a link to an interview where AOC stumbled and struggled to answer questions on how to resolve peace in the Middle East. Wentz called her answers ‘incredibly underwhelming’.

Can We Win in the ‘Gray Zone’?

In April, US President Joe Biden issued his Interim National Security Strategic Guidance. Across the Atlantic, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented the Integrated Review of Security, Defense, Development and Foreign Policy to parliament. Both leaders expressed concern over the increasing challenges in the gray zone and promised measures to respond more effectively.

The gray zone is the space between peace and war involving coercive actions that fall outside normal geopolitical competition between states but do not reach the level of armed conflict. Actions in the gray zone are conducted by states often using proxies including terrorists, and also by terrorist organizations in their own right. Gray zone actions are aggressive and often ambiguous, deniable and opaque. They are intended to damage, coerce or influence, to destabilise target states or undermine the international status quo. They usually seek to avoid a significant military response, though are often designed to intimidate and deter a target state by threatening further escalation.

Sixteen years ago, a handsome man in his 50s, who had been a big deal in the United Kingdom, addressed a Liberal policy convention. He was distinguished and impressive and he possessed the political allure that comes with having been a great success at something other than politics. Though he did not admit to having any ambitions for public office, he was already being touted as a potential successor to the prime minister of the day.

Less than a year later, Michael Ignatieff was the Liberal MP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore. Four years after that, he was leader of the Liberal party.

But the less said about what happened after that, the better.

‘War in the woods’: activists blockade Vancouver Island in bid to save ancient trees

Hundreds of activists are digging in at logging road blockades across a swath of southern Vancouver Island, vowing to stay as long as it takes to pressure the provincial government to immediately halt cutting of what they say is the last 3% of giant old growth trees left in the province.

The situation echoes the 1993 “war in the woods” in nearby Clayoquot Sound, which saw nearly 1,000 people arrested at similar logging blockades in the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history.
