China’s US Enablers

One of the sadder realities of modern business is seeing how China has managed to co-opt and make hostages of American capitalists dazzled by the riches of the Chinese market. Ray Dalio of Bridgewater Associates is just the latest financial titan to play the “Who am I to judge how another country runs itself?” card.

For Dalio, moral relativism is great for business.

You Might Have Missed It, But Real Diversity Was At Play In The Parent-Led Rebellion In Virginia

Democrats and their media allies were nearly unanimous: The Republican upset in the November Virginia gubernatorial election was a result of white supremacy.

It’s a common tune, one that more sober voices — even on the left — immediately dismissed for a more nuanced reality. The numbers following the election revealed something Democrats scramble to say they support, and still somehow failed to notice in this case: Diversity.

Ex-federal scientist charged with fraud, breach of trust over alleged ties to Chinese university

Federal authorities have charged an internationally recognized agriculture expert who worked in Saskatchewan with fraud and breach of trust, alleging he secretly received money from a Chinese university while employed by the Canadian government.

Yantai Gan started working for Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada (AAFC) in 1999, and the Royal Society of Canada recognized his crop sciences research in 2019. Mr. Gan was arrested two years ago, but the RCMP did not publicly announce the criminal case against him until last week, days before the start of his preliminary hearing in Swift Current.

GOLDSTEIN: COVID-19 exposed the folly of our approach to climate change

If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it is the utter impracticability of meeting the United Nations targets on reducing global greenhouse gas emissions to address climate change.

The UN says that as a first step in avoiding catastrophic global warming of more than 1.5C by the end of this century, global emissions have to drop every year from 2020 to 2030 by 7.6%.

National Council of Canadian Muslims gets support from CAIR, asks Trudeau for help to fight Quebec secularist bill

It April last year, it emerged that Canada’s Supreme Court wouldn’t hear a challenge to Quebec’s secularism law (Bill C-21), which restricts religious symbols at work. In 2019, Quebec Premier François Legault “shrugged off” complaints that the anti-religious symbols law encouraged “Islamophobia,” and he was right to do so. At that time, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (formerly CAIR-CAN, an offshoot of CAIR) vowed to continue the fight in court. They are living up to this promise, with help from CAIR.

What the hate crime hoax expert thinks about Jussie Smollett

In 1987, Tawana Brawley was found unresponsive in a plastic bag, covered in feces, and with racial slurs written on her body. She later said she had been held in a cabin and raped by white men for days. In 2012, a gay club in Chicago was defaced with slurs and burned to the ground. In 2015, black students at Kean University received death threats on Twitter.

These high-profile incidents were all investigated as hate crimes and garnered sympathy around the country. They were also all found to have been faked.

Fauci: Holiday travel increases COVID risk given ‘raging’ Omicron

Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Sunday that traveling during the holidays presents an increased risk of COVID-19 given the Omicron variant “raging” around the globe.

The White House chief medical adviser said people need to be “prudent” if they plan to travel over the season.

“Clearly, when you travel, there is always a risk of increased infection. That just goes with respiratory illnesses,” Fauci told NBC anchor Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press.”

Fauci has lost public credibility. Even if right and I believe he is in this instance fewer and fewer heed his announcements.

Nolte: Spielberg‘s ‘Woke Side Story‘ Dives 68% at Box Office in Week Two

All hope for Steven Spielberg’s racially divisive West Side Story remake died in week two, plummeting 68 percent with a humiliating take of just $3.4 million.

After ten days in release, which includes two weekends, this historic box office bomb has grossed just $17.9 million.

Review – ‘West Side Story’: The Music Survives Socialist Realism

The new film adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical play “West Side Story” opened Dec. 10 to the conundrum of rave reviews and limp box office. Why director Steven Spielberg decided that the highly celebrated, Oscar-winning 1961 film of this musical needed remaking is anyone’s guess. If his purpose was to update the script to reflect current politically correct attitudes, he succeeded.

Tony Kushner’s screenplay includes several laughable interpolations of present cultural beliefs, including the pointless inclusion of the Puerto Rican national anthem sung with raised fists. Another is the evolution of tomboy character Anybody’s into a fully trans female-to-male whose monstrous physical strength somehow allows her/him to beat up a roomful of police officers.

That sounds like Oscar Bait. I’m not kidding.

Kim Potter: ‘Taser mix-up’ ex-officer weeps in manslaughter testimony

A former Minnesota police officer has tearfully recounted the “chaotic” moment she shot and killed a black motorist in April.

Kim Potter, 49, claims she mistakenly drew her gun instead of her Taser and killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright.

She now faces two manslaughter charges for his death. Her defence team claims he was resisting arrest.

I feel very sorry for this woman. She will not get off despite this being a horrid accident.

The CBC’s ad revenue problem continues

Advertising revenues at the CBC fell again last year. According to Mother Corp’s annual report, recently tabled in Parliament, ad sales were down from $220 million in 2019 to just under $199 million in 2020, a drop of about 10% in one year.

On top of that, CBC’s share of prime-time viewers fell by 2%, despite the fact locked-down Canadians watched more TV than ever before during the pandemic. At any given time during prime viewing hours (8 to 11 p.m.), just 5% of Canadians are watching our state broadcaster.

5% ??? The CBC has succeeded in uniting Canadians in their disdain for the CBC.

BC Forbids Unvaccinated From Hosting or Attending Private Gatherings During the Holidays

British Columbia is forbidding residents who have not received a COVID-19 vaccine from hosting anyone in their homes or attending gatherings in other people’s homes over the holiday season.

“If you are unvaccinated or have members of your family who are unvaccinated, we cannot have personal gatherings in those settings right now,” provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said at a press conference on Dec. 17.

Does this make any sense given who is being infected? The vaccinated vastly outnumber the unvaccinated by infection in Ontario, it can’t be any different in BC.

The Ministry of Health says 905 of Sunday’s cases involve unvaccinated people, 142 involve partially vaccinated people, 2,977 involve fully vaccinated people and 153 involve people with unknown vaccination status.
