Potent cannabis strain ‘causing psychosis time bomb’ in US

“It’s no different than any other industry that bases their profits on addiction,”

The mass legalisation of cannabis has led to a mental health “time bomb” in the United States and scientists are warning that stronger strains are driving psychosis among young people.

Rules were relaxed a decade ago in the states of Washington and Colorado while voters in California chose to legalise recreational marijuana use in 2016. In total 47 states and Washington DC have softened their laws on cannabis in some form.

Supporters of these policies point to the billions of dollars in tax revenue state’s can make each year from regulating the drug, and argue that criminalising cannabis disproportionately harms black communities.

A growing number of states have legalized marijuana for medical or recreational use, and at the federal level, Congress is considering decriminalizing the drug and expunging past convictions for marijuana-related offenses.

The link to violence is being deliberately played down.

Fearless prediction: In 10 years professional victims will sue for reparations as marijuana legalization will be found to have disproportionately harmed blacks.

Wanted: Contract Soldier. Good Pay. Bonus For Destroying Ukrainian Tanks.

There are plenty of job vacancy announcements on Russian employment websites and social media these days: drivers, dishwashers, cooks, programmers, grocery store cashiers.

Also on offer: jobs/positions fighting in Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Now in its fourth month, with no end in sight, the invasion is morphing into a war of attrition, as Russia struggles to achieve a semblance of victory and Ukraine mounts a dogged defense, often against the odds. Both sides are inflicting heavy casualties; Ukrainian officials say they’re losing more than 100 soldiers a day.

Motorists left stranded on the road as soaring gas prices run tanks on empty

TORONTO – As many motorists fill their tanks in increments in an effort to save on gas, some are being left stranded or forced to abandon their vehicles as soaring gas prices leave their wallets and tanks empty.

Paula Guitar, who was on her way to Newmarket, Ont. to care for her ill mother, told CTV News that she ran out of gas in the middle of her drive. Guitar ended up using her actual guitar to busk for enough funds to get to her destination.

“A lot of people are driving on $20 worth of gas,” Brian Patterson, the president of the Ontario Safety League, told CTV News. “When they run out of gas … you can imagine today on the 400 somebody runs out of gas in the middle lane.”

Prosecuting Mississauga mosque attack as terrorism an unusual ‘test case,’ experts say

The decision to prosecute a recent attack on a Mississauga mosque as a terrorism offence is an unusual step that may be difficult to prove in court, terrorism experts say.

Proving that 24-year-old Mohammad Moiz Omar committed a terror offence when he allegedly attacked worshippers at the Dar Al-Tawheed Islamic Centre earlier this year will require prosecutors to argue a complex and “rarely used” clause in the Criminal Code. That clause, which has been in place since 2001, “essentially requires proof of a political or religious motive and attempts to intimidate a population,” said Kent Roach, a University of Toronto law professor and policing expert.

Still no info on what exactly has given police cause to make the terrorism case.

Ukraine’s high casualty rate could bring war to tipping point

Any way you count it, the figures are stark: Ukrainian casualties are running at a rate of somewhere between 6oo and 1,000 a day. One presidential adviser, Oleksiy Arestovych, told the Guardian this week it was 150 killed and 800 wounded daily; another, Mykhaylo Podolyak, told the BBC that 100 to 200 Ukrainian troops a day were being killed.

It represents an extraordinary loss of human life and capacity for the defenders, embroiled in a defence of the eastern city of Sievierodonetsk that this week turned into a losing battle. Yet the city was also arguably a place that Ukraine could have retreated from to the more defensible Lysychansk, across the Siverski Donets River, the sort of defensive situation that Ukraine has fared far better in.

Ontario to stop daily reporting of COVID-19 data after more than two years

Ontario is shifting its COVID-19 data reporting from daily to weekly updates beginning next week.

“Starting on June 16th, Public Health Ontario (PHO) will move to weekly reporting and will publish the latest COVID-19 data each Thursday,” Ministry of Health spokesperson Alexandra Hilkene said in a statement issued on Friday afternoon.

I hope we never see it resurrected. Then again there’s always MonkeyPox.

And they called it Monkey Love. No I guess they’ll never know … how a young heart really feels. This is not a Monkey Love!

There were 98 cases in Quebec, nine in Ontario, four in Alberta and one in British Columbia, with other suspected cases being investigated, Dr. Theresa Tam told a briefing.

Tam said the National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends that people who may be at high risk of exposure get vaccinated.

In California, unlike at home, the reviews are still glowing for Justin Trudeau

Justin Trudeau went to California this week. Cue the Hollywood treatment.

“You’re here to pitch a show to HBO Max, right?” Trudeau was asked when he strolled into the Los Angeles studio of the popular podcast “Pod Save the World.”

“Esthetically, you look like you could be brothers or at least cousins,” one hard-hitting reporter suggested at a news conference with California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

California is progressive hell. Perfect for Justin.

Joe Biden at the summit: One embarassment after another

Joe Biden has repeatedly embarrassed himself at head-of-state summits, as we noticed in Europe — everything from “long and loud” farts for the British royals to getting lost at the buffet table.  Staff can’t seem to keep him out of them, though.

That brings us to his series of bumblings at the Summit of the Americas, a major gathering of Western Hemisphere leaders that this year was hosted by the U.S. in Los Angeles.

Start with the organizing of it.

The Kavanaugh Assassination Plot is a Leftist Inside Job

Conservative justices are in hiding because AG Garland won’t enforce the law.

After police arrested a California leftist on a mission to assassinate Justice Kavanaugh, the Biden administration finally condemned the campaign to intimidate the Supreme Court.

“As the president has consistently made clear, public officials, including judges, must be able to do their jobs without concern for their personal safety or that of their families,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre falsely claimed.

Hezbollah and Iran’s new plot against the West

Their fighters are infiltrating into northeastern Syria

Sources in Syria bring disconcerting news. Lebanese Hezbollah — the largest, most active, and most powerful Iranian-aligned militia — is infiltrating fighters into northeastern Syria and setting up sleeper cells where Coalition forces are stationed. Soldiers and commanders are now in Hasakah city, the capital of the Al-Hasakah Governorate. So far they are mainly in the regime-controlled Security Square and Al-Meridian neighbourhood. They are also in Qamishli and regime bases.
