British prof who is member of the Communist party and advocates “facemasks forever” appointed as chair of WHO advisory group

Professor Susan Michie, Director of the Centre for Behaviour Change at University College London, will chair the WHO’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Behavioural Insights and Sciences for Health.

The UCL academic, who is a frequent contributor on the BBC and ITV, has been a member of the Communist Party of Britain for more than 40 years.

She made headlines last year after she advocated for stringent Covid-19 restrictions on life in the UK and “maximum suppression” of the virus around the world, including saying that face masks and social distancing measures should continue “forever”.

Rex Murphy: Food and energy — the Liberal government’s attack on life’s essentials

To flip a very famous phrase, now is the summer of our discontent.

Toronto — always yearning to be a world-renowned city, but not in this way — has had its main airport deemed the “world’s worst.” The government of (what should be) a great country is buying lawn chairs for citizens stranded in endless lines waiting for passports. A democracy-minded woman from Medicine Hat is sitting in an Ottawa jail over highly technical “breach of bail’ conditions while volatile offenders wander freely outside in the summer air. Inquiries into possible interference in a massive police investigation and the first-time invocation of the Emergencies Act are stumbling along with questionable effectiveness.

FUREY: Here’s why we might soon see more farmer protests across Canada

Last week, Canadian news reports told of farm-related protests erupting across the country — including one that saw a slow roll convoy head through downtown Ottawa.

These reports described this activism as a show of support for Dutch farmers. Tensions have run high in the Netherlands as farmers have used equipment to block roads and supermarkets in response to climate change regulations targeting livestock emissions. They say the regulations will force the closure of farms across the country and send food prices soaring.

Man charged with killing Muslim family in London, Ont. to be tried elsewhere

The trial of a man facing terror-related murder charges in the deaths of four members of a Muslim family in London, Ont., will be held in a different city.

An Ontario judge has ruled that a change of venue is warranted in the case of Nathaniel Veltman.

The reasons for that decision, as well as the evidence and arguments presented in court, cannot be disclosed due to a publication ban.

Trudeau government insists its Green-scam can ruin economy by 2030 despite extension for oil and gas sector

The federal government says Canada will still achieve its 2030 greenhouse gas emissions reduction commitments despite Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault offering the oil and gas sector a little more time to hit its targets.

“The target date hasn’t changed. Really, the minister was just trying to show flexibility and good will,” said Bruce Cheadle, a senior communications adviser to Guilbeault.

Cheadle said the federal government is not “rewriting its program” on emission reductions but is rather trying to be flexible in the way it meets its overall 2030 target.

Everything this government says is a lie. They will deliberately impoverish you.

Stephen Harper endorses Pierre Poilievre for party leader

OTTAWA – Former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper has endorsed Pierre Poilievre to be the party’s next leader.

In a rare public return to party politics, Harper, who didn’t wade into the Conservatives’ 2017 and 2020 leadership races, released a short video on Twitter on Monday discussing his endorsement.

Harper says the contest to lead the party is filled with candidates, but one stands out.

Peer-Reviewed Study Finds Monkeypox Primarily Transmitted Sexually by Men

The first major peer-reviewed study of monkeypox infections has found that the virus is primarily being transmitted through the sexual activity of gay and bisexual men in the United States and around the world.

The Journal of New England Medicine on Thursday published a study that looked at monkeypox infection across 16 countries between April and June, when cases began to emerge in countries outside of Africa.

Gazprom: Nord Stream 1 gas supply to EU to be cut further

Russian energy giant Gazprom says it will once again drastically cut gas supplies to the EU through its main pipeline due to maintenance work.

Gazprom said stopping another turbine at the Nord Stream 1 pipeline would cut daily gas production to 20%, halving the current level of supply.

The German government said there was no technical reason to limit gas supply.

Full Frontal With Samantha Bee is abruptly canceled… after celebrating 200th episode milestone following Warner Bros Discovery merger

Full Frontal With Samantha Bee did not get a pass on the list of shows that were axed from the TBS network.

The award-winning late night talk show first aired in 2016, hosted by the comedian, 52, and went on for a total of seven seasons, with its last episode premiering in June.

The network is currently undergoing a Warner Bros. Discovery merger, and a number of other shows had their lifespan cut short.

Scott Stinson: Is this the end of junior hockey as we know it?

It is a given that Hockey Canada’s return appearance on Parliament Hill this week is a step in a process that will bring significant change.

At the least, there should be leadership changes at the governing body for hockey in this country, and the only surprising part is that they haven’t happened already. With its government funding frozen and corporate sponsors having fled in droves amid serious questions about how it handled allegations of a group sexual assault at a Hockey Canada event four years ago, resignations at the top are inevitable.

Tamara Lich Once Again Argues For Freedom From Jail At Bail-Review Hearing

“Freedom Convoy” organizer Tamara Lich is once again arguing to be released from jail after a justice of the peace denied her bail earlier this month.

Lich was ordered to remain in jail to await trial for her role in the protest that paralyzed downtown Ottawa in February, after the court decided she had breached her bail conditions.

She had been ordered not to communicate with key convoy organizers except through counsel or in the presence of counsel, but was re-arrested after having contact with fellow protest leader Tom Marazzo at an awards gala in Toronto last month.

The Liberals Are Afraid Of You

Fear and contempt.

That sums up how the Liberals view Canadians who dare to disagree with their worldview.

While governments should ‘fear’ their Citizens to some extent, it’s better to think of it in terms of ‘respect.’

The government should respect the fact that they serve the public, and are not supposed to rule over them.

They should also respect the fact that the government represents a very small proportion of the population, and that they are supposed to maintain power through the tacit consent of those they govern.

However, history shows that when governments stop respecting the power of the citizen, but instead fear those who oppose them, things can head in a very dark direction.

And when contempt is added to the mix, it’s even worse.

CIA director ‘proud’ of Afghanistan analysis despite disastrous Taliban takeover

CIA Director William Burns said he is “very proud” of the agency’s analysis in Afghanistan in 2021 despite being blindsided by the swift collapse of the Afghan government and failing to predict how quickly the Taliban would take Kabul.

The Taliban rapidly took over Afghanistan in mid-August amid a chaotic U.S. military withdrawal, and a suicide bombing by ISIS-K late that month killed 13 U.S. service members and at least 170 Afghan civilians as the United States led evacuation operations at the airport, with the Taliban providing security outside.

Lefty NY lawmaker Jessica Ramos blasts AOC as ‘absent,’ out of touch

A progressive state lawmaker from Queens took a shot at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for being “absent” and out of touch — accusing the left-wing icon of blowing off a meeting.

Sen. Jessica Ramos, whose western and central Queens district overlaps with AOC’s congressional district and who has been an ally, unloaded on the congresswoman after a med student complained about her canceling a health care forum.

The Ukrainian nationalists standing in Russia’s way on eastern front

Barely a kilometre from Russian positions defending the captured eastern city of Izium, Ukrainian and foreign fighters hunker in a dank basement. Artillery rains down on them most nights, shaking loose the plaster and filling the air with dust.

At the sharp end of efforts to stop the Russian army’s progress in eastern Ukraine are the Carpathian Sich battalion, a unit of Ukrainians and foreign nationals who answered Kyiv’s call for help to confront the invader.

“Now it’s more of an artillery war. It’s a tougher war, a scarier war, where only people who are strong in their spirit can fight,” said Dzvin, a field commander in the battalion who asked to be identified by his nom de guerre for security reasons, due to his leadership role.

Tlaib Campaign Events Were Organized by Accused Jihad Financiers

What did you expect?

Imagine if a sitting member of the House of Representatives had had campaign events organized by alleged financiers of the Ku Klux Klan. He or she would already have resigned in disgrace. But Rashida Tlaib won’t even be asked about this: the Washington Examiner reported Monday that “two men who held key positions at nonprofit groups that were found liable in a Hamas terror financing scheme helped organize campaign fundraising events for Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) in 2018.” Really, is anyone surprised? This is what Michigan’s 13th congressional district elected that year and reelected in 2020. This is, apparently, what Michigan’s 13th congressional district wants.

Why Joe Biden must never declare a climate emergency

A state of emergency would be bad for democracy, freedom and living standards.

One of the most curious sights of the 21st century is radicals taking to the streets to demand a state of emergency. There was a time, back when politics was less crazy, when leftists and liberals were wary of emergency legislation. If a politician so much as uttered the word ‘emergency’ they’d be readying their placards and practicing their slogans. And with good reason. An ‘emergency’ is a deeply authoritarian affair. It involves suspending the normal political process on the basis that there’s a threat on the horizon that is so massive – whether it be terrorism, war, disease or some political ‘enemy within’ – that it cannot be dealt with by mere democratic means. No, only swiftly enforced brute law will do; only the rescinding of civil liberty will suffice.

Himars have ‘changed everything’: weapons destroy 50 Russian ammunition depots in one month

American-supplied Himars missile launchers have destroyed more than 50 Russian ammunition dumps since they arrived on the battlefield last month, Ukraine’s defence minister said.

Oleksiy Reznikov told Ukrainian television that the scalpel-like accuracy of the missiles had significantly eroded Russia’s supply chains and its ability to conduct active fighting and cover our armed forces with heavy shelling.

We are talking about 50 sites in terms of ammunition storage locations alone, he told Ukrainian television.
