Authorities believe the 19-year-old who allegedly killed a Toronto police officer this week had been working for a gun-for-hire network that’s suspected in some of the city’s most notorious violence of recent years, sources say.

The network is believed to be linked to an attack on the U.S. consulate, the GTA tow-truck wars and a set of shootings targeting waste management empire GFL Environmental, the Star has learned.

Nothing to do with Islam. Could just as easily been disgruntled Christadelphians.

China uses ChatGPT to sow unrest in America

China has been using ChatGPT to sow unrest in the US, generating fake images and cartoons in an effort to turn Americans against AI.

OpenAI said a “cluster” of accounts based in China had been manipulating its ChatGPT bot to run “covert influence operations” targeting US voters with anti-AI messaging.

It said the fraudulent accounts, which were based in China but masked their true location, created memes and pictures that aimed to “amplify divisions or exacerbate public distrust”, with the AI-generated images shared on X.

18-year-old Sheldon Tracy-Stewart accused of firing gun at U.S. consulate in Toronto arrested

…Const. Marc Pinizzotto was fatally shot at a fourth-floor apartment building on Martha Eaton Way on Thursday, as officers carried out an investigation into multiple shootings, including one at the consulate in March.

Police said 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett, who was shot multiple times in the exchange of gunfire and remains in hospital, faces a first-degree murder charge. A court document shows he has also been charged with firearm-related offences in relation to alleged incidents in March.

Police also arrested and charged another suspect in the consulate shooting on Thursday, a court document shows. Sheldon Tracy-Stewart, 18, is accused of firing a gun at the consulate and committing a violent attack on the official premises of an internationally protected person that was likely to endanger that person’s life or liberty, the document shows.

A deal with the US to end fighting in Iran is close and includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Foreign Minister has said.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi told state TV the deal also includes the lifting of a US blockade of Iran, but that talks on Iran’s nuclear programme would begin later.

US officials have confirmed some of the details of the agreement, saying economic benefits for Iran would depend on Tehran meeting its obligations.
