Toronto police say a 12-year-old boy is facing an attempted murder charge after an officer was struck by a stolen vehicle he was driving in East York early Monday morning.
Officers responded to Donlands Avenue and O’Connor Drive for an auto theft call just after 1 a.m. Police said officers discharged their firearms as they attempted to stop the driver who was allegedly fleeing the scene.
The officer was struck, and left with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Industry Minister Mélanie Joly says she will be meeting with four Chinese companies that are considering building electric vehicles in Canada when she visits China this week in an effort to attract investment to this country’s auto sector.
The four companies – BYD, Chery, Geely and Shanghai Launch Automotive Technology – have been examining possible investments in Canada, Ms. Joly said in an interview. Shanghai Launch’s proposal includes a partnership with British automaker Austin Motor Co., she added.
Canada is a very small market, without US access the ChiComs will just smile and wave at Joly but if she offers to subsidize China’s slavers with tax payer dollars they might perk up a bit.

Protests have rocked the United Kingdom following a murder conviction that raised stark questions about police conduct and equal treatment under the law. In December 2025, 18-year-old university student Henry Nowak was fatally stabbed during an altercation with Vickrum Digwa in Southampton.
When police arrived, Digwa claimed he was the victim of a racially motivated attack. Officers handcuffed Nowak in response, even as he pled innocence and said he could not breathe.

While the Liberal government has once again extended its amnesty on the possession of so-called assault weapons, there is another draconian gun law adopted a few years ago that is still actively being enforced: the ban on selling and transferring handguns put in place by then-Prime Minster Justin Trudeau in 2023.
There are limited exceptions to the ban, including for the purchase of pistols used in Olympic-style shooting. But other competitive shooting leagues, including the International Practical Shooting Confederation, that use standard handguns, are doomed to extinction if the ban remains in place.
