Two dead, four injured in shooting near Salsa on St. Clair festival in Toronto

A burst of gunfire near the Salsa on St. Clair street festival Saturday night killed two men, seriously wounded four others and sent thousands of festivalgoers fleeing in panic through the streets in Toronto’s west end.

Toronto police were called to reports of a shooting near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue, just west of the festival grounds, shortly after 8:10 p.m. A total of six people were found with gunshot wounds, including two men who died — one at the scene, the other in hospital — according to Toronto police.

Two in five Britons think Muslims cannot integrate in UK, poll finds

Two in five Britons believe Muslims cannot integrate into British society and more than half believe the country’s national identity is disappearing due to “diversity”, a report authored by a former government adviser on extremism has found.

Sara Khan, who stood down in 2024 as the UK’s first counter-extremism commissioner, said such views contrasted sharply with accompanying findings that showed 85% of Muslims “favour integration”.

Extremist views were being exploited and promoted by hostile states and malign domestic actors, it was said. Researchers logged 1,784 far-right offline events and 225 Islamist events over a 12-month period.

Hunter Biden wins $1.7m in suit over Iran bribery claim by ex-CEO of Overstock.com

A federal judge on Friday awarded Hunter Biden $1.7m in punitive damages in a defamation lawsuit he filed against former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne.

Biden sued Byrne – a Donald Trump ally who denied the results of the 2020 election and funded efforts to overturn them – in 2023, accusing Byrne of lying in an interview that Biden had previously sought a bribe from Iran’s government in the fall of 2021.

Joe Biden, Hunter’s father, was the US president at the time. And Byrne in an interview lied that Hunter Biden – in exchange for an $800m bribe – had offered Iran to go to his father, have him “unfreeze” $8bn in frozen Iranian assets and ensure that the US would “go easy” on Iran during “nuclear talks” between the two countries, according to Hunter Biden’s lawsuit.
