The BBC has demanded that Donald Trump hand over his personal messages in an attempt to prove that he incited the Jan 6 riots.

In a fightback against the US president’s $10bn (£7.5bn) defamation lawsuit, the broadcaster’s lawyers hope to prove in court that he should be held responsible for urging his supporters to storm the US Capitol.

Last year The Telegraph revealed that a speech given by Mr Trump on Jan 6 2021 was spliced together in a Panorama documentary that made it appear as if he was directly inciting the mob in protest against the election result.

The latest salvo in US President Donald Trump’s freewheeling trade war could have disastrous effects for Canadian business. But the new tariff threats may also open up trade opportunities elsewhere, with China and the EU in a strong position to benefit.

Trump’s planned 50% tariff on a range of imported goods ranges from wine to hockey sticks but does not include other key sectors such as energy, potash and fish.

It is expected to impact about 5%, or $20 billion (€17.5 billion) worth, of goods and “the impact could be devastating for the people in businesses involved,” Julian Karaguesian, an economics lecturer from Canada’s McGill University, told DW.

‘Once again the system bends over backwards for a child killer’: Fury of victims’ families as Southport killer ‘manipulates’ his way out of prison and into Broadmoor

The families of three girls murdered by Axel Rudakubana have accused the Southport killer of trying to ‘manipulate the system’ after he was transferred to Broadmoor.

The 19-year-old was moved to the secure psychiatric hospital from Belmarsh prison earlier this week after it was decided that he could not be managed safely in a prison environment.

Lawyer Chris Walker, of Bond Turner, who is representing the Southport families, said: ‘The three families we represent have been made aware of this development in the last 48 hours and it is safe to say that whilst this news would devastate them at any time, the fact that this has occurred as we approach the second anniversary in our view is another move by AR who would appear to be attempting, once again, to manipulate the system.
