Vatican’s Secretary of State under fire for describing Islamic attacks against Christians in Nigeria as a ‘social conflict.’

Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin is under fire for remarks that downplay the terror attacks that Christians in Nigeria have been suffering at the hands of Islamic extremists for decades.

Parolin was the keynote speaker for an event held at the Vatican on Tuesday. The gathering focused on the recently released 2025 Religious Freedom Report published by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN).

ACN surveyed 196 countries for its report. It found that just under two-thirds of the world’s population live in countries with “serious or very serious violations of religious freedom.” Twenty-four countries, including Nigeria, received the “worst” category in its report: persecution.

There is a constituency in the Conservative Party for Poilievre’s antics, which is really the problem

The SNC-Lavalin affair was the worst corruption scandal in federal politics since the sponsorship scandal – maybe since the Pacific Scandal. If it did not involve material gain for any of the participants, it certainly involved flagrant abuse of power, by officials from the prime minister on down.

The facts, for those needing a refresher: Justin Trudeau and senior officials in his government pressured then-attorney-general, Jody Wilson-Raybould – strenuously, repeatedly, and for many months – to interfere in a criminal prosecution on behalf of a Liberal-connected engineering firm, SNC-Lavalin (now called AtkinsRéalis), for explicitly partisan reasons. When she refused, she was fired. When at length she went public, they spent months more stonewalling, covering up, deflecting and smearing her reputation.

I wonder if Coyne has ever voted conservative? Seriously.

OpenAI launches browser to rival Google Chrome

The US artificial intelligence company OpenAI said on Tuesday that it is launching its own web browser, Atlas, to rival Google’s popular Chrome browser.

Atlas will be powered by OpenAI’s popular chatbot ChatGPT, as the California-based firm looks to revolutionize how people use the internet.

“Tabs were great, but we haven’t seen a lot of browser innovation since then,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in a video presentation broadcast on Tuesday, speaking off a “rare, once-a-decade opportunity to rethink what a browser can be about and how to use one.”

Chinese fentanyl kingpin with 20 aliases captured in Cuba

He worked in the shadows, using at least 20 aliases: some knew him as “Mr Haha” or as “Brother Wang”. To others he was “Mr T” or “Nelson Mandela” apparently reflecting his childhood heroes. To his neighbours in Mexico City, he was just “Pancho”.

His scruffy appearance and diminutive size gave few clues that he was, according to the US authorities, an immensely wealthy kingpin who bridged the gap between China and the two most powerful drug cartels in the world.
