Say goodbye to rent control, indefinite leases if Ontario passes housing proposal: advocates

Ontario’s planned new housing legislation could open the door to ending rent control and indefinite leases across the province, advocates warn after a recent proposal by Premier Doug Ford’s government.

The Ford government introduced a new housing bill on Thursday that it says would streamline approvals and let developers build homes more quickly.

But buried in the legislation is a proposal for “alternative options to lease expiry rules that could allow landlords to control who occupies their units and for how long,” including through adjustments to rental arrangements based on “market conditions, personal needs or business strategies,” according to the province’s briefing slides Thursday.

Canadian unions, business groups scoff at Donald Trump’s sudden 10 per cent tariff over lingering of Reagan ad

Donald Trump says the U.S. will levy an additional 10 per cent tariff on Canadian imports in retaliation for an anti-tariff TV ad by the Ontario government featuring the words and voice of former U.S. president Ronald Reagan.

The U.S. president made the announcement in a post on Truth Social. The tariff will be “over and above what they are paying now,” Trump stated Saturday.

Trump Should Stop Sharing Intel With The U.K. Until It Punishes Chinese Espionage

The recent collapse of the prosecution in a major China spy case has unfolded as one of the most significant scandals for the U.K.’s Labour government since it assumed power last year.

At the center of this case are Christopher Berry and Christopher Cash, British citizens who both have connections to China. Witness statements from Matthew Collins, the U.K.’s deputy national security adviser, reveal that Berry was recruited by China’s spy agency, the Ministry of State Security (MSS), to gather intelligence on the U.K. parliament while he was teaching in China.

The exploding gas pipeline and the Superman who never was

A WARSAW court has thrown out a German attempt to extradite a Ukrainian on charges of blowing up three of the four Nord Stream pipelines supplying gas from Russia to Germany in 2022.

The judge ruled that even if Volodymr Zhuravlyov did it, the act was justified in time of war.

The Germans are not happy. But the Poles are. They have a bit of history with German-Russian pacts and had consistently opposed the construction of Nord Stream. Even Donald Tusk, the most Germanophile prime minister in Polish history, opposed the extradition. ‘The problem with Nord Stream is not that it was blown up, but that it was built,’ Tusk posted on X.

GOLDSTEIN: Liberals back on China bandwagon

Six months after Prime Minister Mark Carney called China Canada’s greatest security threat, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is gushing about forging a “strategic partnership” with it.

“There are going to always be challenges in any relationship,” Anand cheerily told The Canadian Press last week. “What we are aiming to do is recalibrate the relationship, so that it is constructive and pragmatic.”

The manhunt for the Epping sex offender shames the British state

It took staff at HMP Chelmsford more than an hour to realise their blunder. The most notorious sex offender in Britain – an Ethiopian migrant convicted of sexually assaulting a teenager – had just been accidentally released on to the streets. At around 11.30am on Friday, instead of being sent to an immigration facility, where he would then be deported to his home country, he was let out of prison and sent on his merry way. The manhunt is ongoing.

Dem Officials are Incentivizing Anti-ICE Violence

At a meeting with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Rep. Robert Garcia announced that the House Democrats on the Oversight Committee would be launching a ‘Master ICE tracker’. This follows the previous removal of ICE trackers by Apple and Facebook after the apps and sites tracking activity by immigration law enforcement personnel led to multiple violent confrontations with illegal alien activists, ugly acts of violence and at least one death so far.

Problems in Canada’s Constitution Lead to Land Grab for Cowichan Tribes

When it was proposed that property rights be enshrined in the Constitution, the New Democratic Party (NDP), Canada’s socialist party, came out adamantly opposed to it, and so this never happened.

When I returned to Canada in 1981, after having lived in the United States for 15 years, then-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau was in the process of what was called “repatriating” the Canadian Constitution. I remember being appalled by the process and the final result. To be clear, a good argument could be made for doing what the PM was doing. At the time Canada already had a constitution, it was called the British North America Act of 1867, but it was an act passed by the British Parliament when granting Canada independence and as such could only be amended by said Parliament. Since it stemmed from the constitutional tradition of England, the British North America Act was not that bad for what it was, but the idea of devising a made-in-Canada constitution had a lot of merit both because it would give more independence to the country and also provide an opportunity for Canada to craft a formal Bill of Rights that could be referenced moving forward. But, as ever, the devil was in the details and on this score the process and the result were seriously flawed.

Met Police launches massive new grooming gangs inquiry with 9,000 cases probed again after criticism of Sadiq Khan and UK’s biggest force

Mark Rowley is a dick

The Met Police is reviewing 9,000 cases in a massive new grooming gangs probe amid criticism of Sadiq Khan’s claims that none operated in the capital.

The Mayor of London has repeatedly denied that his city was blighted by the kinds of child abuse seen in towns such as Rochdale and Rotherham.

However, this week reports emerged from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) of young girls being raped.

An evil farce …

Enoch Powell understated Britain’s problems

Sectarianism is even worse than he predicted

The great John O’Sullivan has a story about Enoch Powell which he keeps promising to put into print. Since he still hasn’t done so, I will risk repeating it here. It occurred during a conversation some years after the Rivers of Blood speech. A group of conservatives were talking, and Powell was among them. At some point one of those present referred to the 1968 speech and asked Powell: “Why did you do it?”

The gathering Canadian political storm

Why our ruling classes apologize for everything but the slaughter of innocents — and how “sorry” became a weapon for moral surrender.

It is a measure of the world’s inverted values that the entire Western world will take the knee for a homicidal thug and that, bar a few brave souls, the slaughter of innocents today will trigger a deafening silence amongst our erudite elites, governing classes, and leading artistic figures.

Doug Ford, Ontario’s Albatross

Jeep manufacturer Stellantis announced on October 14 that it is moving production to Illinois from its Brampton, Ontario, plant, leaving 3,000 workers wondering where dinner is coming from. Blond bombshell Federal Industry Minister Mélanie Joly has threatened to sue the company, which no doubt has company execs driving off the road and hiding in the bush. Not to be outdone, GM is moving its Ingersoll plant to the U.S., leaving 1,200 workers unemployed. As Spencer Gatten reports, altogether something in the vicinity of 6,000 jobs have been lost in the last week, not counting the indirect and ancillary jobs that will also disappear.
