Geoff Russ: Canadian voters are aging out of mainstream conservatism

The Conservative Party faces the problem of a changing country, not a change in ethnic diversity or gender identity, but a change in age brackets. In fact, the electorate is aging out of their preferred conservatism, and they are not getting any younger.

In this changed country, appeals to tax cuts and smaller government simply do not have the attraction they once did. Dependence on the state has grown. Part of that dependence stems from the outsized expansion of the public service since 2015, but that is not the main culprit. The real culprit is the growing share of the population made up of retirees and pensioners.

A police officer was hospitalized on Thursday night in London as Moroccans vented their fury at losing to France in the World Cup quarter-final. Riot police were deployed to the Edgware Road after Moroccans set off fireworks and chucked debris at officers. Police arrested four people for “violent disorder.”

There was also tension overnight in several Dutch cities, although the rioting wasn’t as bad as a fortnight ago when Morocco beat Holland in the World Cup. On that occasion police subdued hooligans with a water cannon and numerous arrests were made.

The Iranian center of raw power currently lies with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), more than the mullahs who provide doctrinal support.

Torontonians fleeing city in droves, new TMU report suggests

New data out of Toronto Metropolitan University shows that Toronto’s population growth has seen a dramatic swing since 2024, going from the fastest growing metro area in the United States and Canada all the way down to No. 443 last year.

The report, from TMU’s Centre for Urban Research and Land Development, says while a drop in international migration was a factor – it also brought Montreal and Vancouver far down the list – the big cause is that Toronto is bleeding residents to other parts of Canada.

TMU is a leftist craphole, the fact that Toronto is becoming an ungovernable 3rd World Dumpster fire won’t ever be addressed in anything they produce.

China Launches ICBM, Sanders Proposes Disarmament

On July 6, a Chinese Navy submarine launched either a JL-2 or JL-3 nuclear-capable, intercontinental ballistic missile.

The missile, traveling in a southeasterly direction and carrying a mock warhead, landed in the Pacific Ocean, in the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone.

The launch was the first known Chinese submarine-launched missile test since 1982 and the first ever from a Chinese nuclear-powered sub.

Jail guard targeted in Project South alleged murder plot accused of overseeing abusive practices

The senior corrections officer targeted in an alleged murder plot that sparked the Project South probe into police corruption defended his work at Toronto South Detention Centre in court Thursday in response to allegations that he oversaw abusive practices and threatened inmates.

The allegations come from current inmate Joshua James Malcolm-Evans, who has already pleaded guilty to gun-trafficking charges unrelated to the Project South investigation.

Malcolm-Evans has filed a Charter application arguing his rights have been violated by the jail, and he is looking for a shorter sentence or stay of proceedings in his case.

Bayeux tapestry crosses Channel in dead of night for historic UK exhibition

Like the man whose conquest of England almost a millennium ago it recounts, the Bayeux tapestry crossed the Channel in the dead of night, in as much secrecy as possible, landing on the country’s south coast early the following day.

The artefact’s arrival on Friday marked the first time it has returned to England in nearly 1,000 years, and British Museum staff will begin to prepare it for exhibition during its year-long loan.

The museum’s director, Nicholas Cullinan, said: “Watching the tapestry arrive at the museum is a moment I will never forget and I look forward to seeing the exhibition take shape over the coming weeks and welcoming the first visitors through our doors this September.”

York Regional Police say they are searching for a suspect wanted in two separate hate-motivated assaults in Vaughan.

According to police, the first incident occurred on June 9 at around 8:45 p.m. in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive West and Amusement Drive.

“The suspect approached the victim, made a racial comment, and then assaulted them,” York Regional Police said in a news release, adding that the suspect then fled the area.

MANDEL: Toronto lawyer Jagdeep Sikh Virk who allegedly threatened to ‘smash in’ his lover’s face cleared to practise

A tribunal has ruled that a Toronto lawyer originally charged with intimate partner violence and making death threats can continue to practise.

The Law Society of Ontario wanted Jagdeep Sikh Virk, 47, placed on a temporary suspension – or at least, subject to practice restrictions – while he faced serious criminal charges. But in a recent decision, a panel of the Law Society Tribunal dismissed the motion, finding no risk to the public or to the public interest in the administration of justice.
