Nicole Shanahan, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s running mate, said she was considering suspending their campaign in order to help Donald Trump win the US election during a podcast appearance released today.

In a conversation with Tom Bilyeu, the vice-presidential candidate said she and Kennedy could stay in the race in the hopes of winning enough votes to establish a strong third party for future elections, but acknowledged this would run the risk of ushering in a Harris-Walz presidency by drawing votes from Trump. The other option, she said, is to “walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump”.

Toxic masculinity may have been the ultimate villain of the 2010s. It underscored minor sex-based social transgressions — remember the great “manspreading” crisis (2014–2017) and its relative, the “mansplaining” scare? — and was a factor in Harvey Weinstein’s sex crimes, which prompted the #MeToo movement.

Finally, we have the preferred, softer substitute: positive masculinity. It lives, according to Newsweek’s Alyce Collins, in the form of one Timothy James Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate and foil to socially conservative Republican men.

The jobs market in the U.S. was not as hot as it looked for much of last year and early this year, government data released Wednesday showed.

The U.S. economy added 818,000 fewer jobs than the government had previously estimated from the spring of 2023 to the spring of 2024, signaling that the labor market was not as strong and began to soften earlier than previously thought.

For two weeks in July, over 40 companies, ranging from small start-ups to major defense “primes,” gathered in Alpena, Mich., on the banks of Lake Huron. They had come to conduct an exercise designed to test combinations of systems that operate in the electromagnetic spectrum. The effort was sponsored by the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, with the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Ind., taking the on-scene lead on the exercise’s execution. Additionally, commercial participants got to interact with representatives of the Army’s C5ISR Center, the Air Force Test Center, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Michigan National Guard.
