‘One decision will not kill Norad,’ U.S. ambassador says of Canada’s possible mixed fighter jet fleet

OTTAWA – U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra says when it comes to Canada’s ongoing F-35 fighter jet review, a potential mixed fleet will not put Norad in jeopardy.

“One decision will not kill Norad,” Hoekstra said in an exclusive broadcast interview with CTV News chief political correspondent Vassy Kapelos.

“What we’re always going to look for is what is the total capability that we believe we need to keep America safe, that we need to keep North America safe, the Western Hemisphere safe from the threats that are out there,” he later added.

A Somali man who reportedly helped orchestrate one of the most egregious taxpayer fraud schemes in Minnesota and lived the high life off the ill-gotten gains is in custody after authorities caught him in Mogadishu.

“Feeding Our Future” executive director Aimee Bock, who implicated Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Gov. Tim Walz (D), and Attorney General Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) in the fraud, received a sentence of almost 42 years in prison for the $250 million fraud game. But it appears one of her fellow masterminds behind the fraud was hiding from justice in Somalia. Multiple co-conspirators in the scheme have already pleaded guilty.

The Associated Press reported, “France endured sizzling temperatures on Sunday, with trains, concerts and sports events canceled and authorities cracking down on drinking alcohol in public, as an exceptional heat wave unfurled across parts of Europe.”

The story also said, “Over the last four years, more than 200,000 people across Europe died from heat-related causes, and most of the fatalities were preventable, the World Health Organization’s Europe office said this month. More above-average temperatures are expected this summer, which can cause heat exhaustion and life-threatening heat stroke.”

Lawmakers and immigration advocacy groups on Thursday sharply denounced two US supreme court rulings that allowed the Trump administration to strip certain immigration protections and fundamentally reshape the asylum system.

Dozens of groups, advocates and members of Congress called the court’s decisions “disastrous” and “cruel”, while the Trump administration, Republican lawmakers and anti-immigrant groups celebrated the rulings.

“Today, Trump’s loyalists in the supreme court have joined forces with him to deny immigrants’ internationally recognized human rights and advance an authoritarian, white-supremacist agenda at home,” said the Illinois congresswoman Delia Ramirez, a Democrat. “The supreme court’s decisions put more than 350,000 TPS holders at risk of deportation and countless more asylum seekers’ lives in danger.”

President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton walked into federal court with a very stern expression before admitting to stealing national security secrets.

He pleaded guilty on Friday to a single charge of retaining classified information – a significant update in his criminal case, and one that may help him avoid a lengthy jail sentence.

Under the terms of the deal, Bolton could serve up to 60 months, or 5 years, in prison in exchange for his guilty plea. He may also be required to pay a fine of up to $2.25 million and serve 100 hours of community service.

Antifa terrorists convicted of attack on Texas ICE Facility sentenced to minimum 50 years

A group of Texas protesters convicted of terrorism charges received unusually harsh sentences of at least 50 years in prison on Tuesday in a closely watched case that was widely seen as a test case of the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on dissent.

After a three-week jury trial, the nine activists were all found guilty of a slew of criminal charges in March, stemming from a Fourth of July protest at an immigrant detention facility in Alvarado, Texas, south of Fort Worth. The demonstrators arrived late at night with a plan to set off fireworks as part of a noise demonstration to show solidarity with those detained inside. A few of the protesters spontaneously broke off from the main group and vandalized cars in the parking lot, a guard shack, slashed the tires on a government van and broke a security camera. When a police officer arrived on the scene and drew his weapon, one of the activists fired an AR-15 from the woods, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The officer survived.
