Gun control not the answer to mass shootings: Poll

While mass shootings like the recent slayings at a Buffalo supermarket are typically followed with new calls for gun control, most voters believe that is not the answer, and an overwhelming majority say it’s impossible to stop the gun killings.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, likely voters quizzed after the May 14 shooting at a Tops Friendly Markets store that left 10 black people dead followed a pattern seen over the past several years, expressing the hopelessness of stopping the killings, often at the hands of a mentally disturbed shooter.

Where are Ontario’s crime guns coming from? New data shows top U.S. source states

On Sept. 22, 2018, Canadian Border Service agents seized a vehicle attempting to cross from New York.

Inside the vehicle, a so-called “trap” compartment secreted 20 firearms, including several .40 calibre Smith & Wesson handguns, 9mm Taurus pistols and a silencer. Court documents show the individual driving the vehicle was a Canadian citizen.

Why New York’s ‘Assault Weapon’ Ban Didn’t Stop the Buffalo Massacre

The problem is not sneaky entrepreneurs who sell accessories; it’s legislators who ban guns based on functionally unimportant features.

The suspect in the mass shooting that killed 10 people at a Buffalo grocery store on Saturday used a rifle that was widely described as an “assault weapon.” With certain exceptions that don’t apply here, that category of firearms is illegal in New York. Yet The New York Times reports that the shooter legally bought the rifle from a gun dealer in Endicott, New York. How is that possible?

Federal Government Targets Non-Restricted Firearms With New Rules

The federal government has announced a new set of rules that will apply to non-restricted firearms, which it says is aimed at reducing gun violence, while critics say it is a resurrection of the long-gun registry.

As of May 18, firearms businesses will be required to retain sales and inventory records related to non-restricted firearms, as they did until 2005.

The measure was repealed after it was made obsolete by the creation of the long-gun registry in 1998. The long-gun registry was scrapped by the Stephen Harper government in 2012 through Bill C-19.

Another Liberal gun policy that neatly ignores where the guns come from

With Liberal officials now openly mulling the idea of a nationwide ban on handguns, they are simultaneously pursuing reforms that would slacken the penalties for cross-border gun-smugglers.

And according to police in Canada’s most violence-afflicted cities, it’s these smuggled guns that are a far deadlier problem for Canada than the legal ones have ever been.

John Ivison: Trudeau government ponders national handgun ban

The Trudeau government is still considering a nationwide ban on handguns as a “last resort,” even as it prepares to introduce legislation that will offer financial support to provinces that bring in their own restrictions.

“There is a robust debate about taking action (on handguns) from coast-to-coast,” said one person with knowledge of the government’s plan.

Do not let the Trudeau government disarm you.

Gun Rights Groups Plan Lawsuits to Challenge Federal ‘Ghost Gun’ Regulation

At least two national gun rights groups are contemplating lawsuits to challenge the new federal regulation on privately made firearms, or so-called “ghost guns.”

The final ruling, published by the ATF on Apr. 11, essentially expands the definition of a firearm to include partially complete and readily convertible firearm receivers (also called frames).

Once the ruling goes into effect, those receivers will be regulated just like regular firearms, subject to requirements such as serial numbers and background checks.

Steven Del Duca Announces Liberals Will Ban Handguns Provincewide

Steven Del Duca

TORONTO – An Ontario Liberal government will ban handguns across the province in its first year in office, Ontario Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca announced today in his party’s latest platform plank release.

“I’ve had it with Doug Ford’s open for business policy for guns.” Del Duca said, “The Ford Conservatives are putting the interests of the gun lobby ahead of the Ontario victims of gun crime they swore an oath to protect. The result is handgun violence is spiraling out of control. The choice on handguns is clear, more handguns and gun crime under the Ford Conservatives or a ban on handguns under the Ontario Liberals.”

Drawing New Lines – The White House enacts a new rule to crack down on “ghost guns.

This week, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) finalized a rule tweaking a number of firearm-related regulatory definitions. The rule targets legitimate problems, including that privately made “ghost guns” have played an increasing role in gun crime lately. It also draws attention to how vague the federal laws in this area are, giving presidential administrations great discretion to rewrite the rules as they see fit.

NYC mayor calls for ‘national response’ to rising violence after subway shooting

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) called for a “national response” to rising violence following a subway shooting that wounded over a dozen people on Tuesday.

Adams told CNN’s Dana Bash in an interview that increased violence is an issue affecting the entire country and said that while officials have recovered more than 1,800 guns in the last three and a half months, the city needed some assistance.

Federal Constitutional Carry would work.
